As humans, we are all capable of forms of bigotry and seeing ourselves as a part of one group while spitting on the other in the process, but again, thats what we do.
I take exception to that.
The literal adherence to God's word is certainly not bigotry in any form, unless of course, you are calling God a bigot!
When a conservative Christian chides another Christian for 'liberal' views, it's nothing to do with bigotry. It's simply advising the errant individual that they are not keeping to scripture.
The bigot tag normally comes from the direction of 'wannabe Christians' that haven't the courage of their convictions to repent and mend their ways.
Well, God is infinite, and in a way, everything. In our earthly point of view, God may well indeed be what we call 'bigot', which in that context isn't negative for Christians.
I agree though that Christians including Christians who want to show other Christians of their biblical errancy shouldn't be called bigots. However Christians who are intolerant of other people and separate themselves from the rest of the world to keep 'clean' are indeed bigots. e.g. Westboro Baptist Church.
If you believe Scripture then you believe that God will be so "intolerant" of a certain segment of earth's population that He will damn them eternally.
Have you ever read the parable of the sheep and the goats? The "goats" will be cast into "everlasting punishment." (See Matthew 25:31-46 Matthew 25:31-46 KJV - When the Son of man shall come in his - Bible Gateway)
Would you say that the following verses indicate that Jesus Christ was "intolerant" of certain people?:
John 8:44, "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."
Matthew 23:33, "Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?"
Christ was angry with the Pharisees who taught the doctrines of men rather than the Gospel of Truth. To say that God is "tolerant" of certain sins is a doctrine of men ... not God's Holy Truth.
God was also "intolerant" of "the devil, the beast, and the false prophet."
Revelation 20:10, "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."
Folks who accept the mark of the beast and who listen and believe the false prophet are also in jeopardy of hell and damnation. Christ will not "tolerate" that segment of society (including folks who consider themselves Christians) if they accept the mark of the beast:
Revelation 14:9-10, "And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:"
A modern lie within the Christian church is that Christians should be "tolerant" of sinful behavior. We should simply C-O-E-X-I-S-T but the Bible says otherwise:
2 Corinthians 6:14-17, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you."
We can "hate the sin but love the sinner" but that doesn't mean we (Bible-based Christians) have to tolerate the sinner who is actively sinning. I prefer to distance myself from them unless I am in the process of preaching the Gospel or if I am certain that they are seeking a pathway to Jesus Christ. In those instances I believe in doing God's work. In the meantime, I won't just "hang out" with them because it's the popular thing to do.
I'm going to do the honors and back away from this thread.
I don't care about last word.
I don't care what anyone thinks about liberals.
I don't care what anyone thinks about conservatives.
I don't care what anyone thinks about me.
