hi Softloy,
Yes, you are correct. Not only is your assessment correct, but it is even fulfillment of prophecies of the Scriptures. Paul wrote to Timothy: For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. We are living in the very days that Paul warned Timothy would be coming.
Jesus gave a very clear example of faith when he returns:
"I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?" I believe that Jesus, and all of the first disciples who were given the blessing of teaching the later day saints through the written word, all understood that the assessment of people, as a group, would be just as you have assessed.
For the born again believer, we can look at the general acceptance of the behaviour that you speak of, and know that the time is near. The world is ripe for the Anti-christ. Will he rise on the scene in my lifetime? I don't know, but I'm fairly confident that we won't see another 100-200 years of the times of the gentiles.
God bless you.
In Christ, Ted
