• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here's a tip for you. Just because the grizzly bear looks friendly and good natured, don't keep poking it with a stick.

are you going to call me a "windbag" like you did the other?

That wasn't directed at you, and as I said before that discussion is over.
Anyway, here is the translation that you find SO offensive that you HAVE to insult me for it.
2 Corinthians 5:8 says
θαρροῦμεν δὲ καὶ εὐδοκοῦμεν μᾶλλον ἐκδημῆσαι ἐκ τοῦ σώματος καὶ ἐνδημῆσαι πρὸς τὸν κύριον.
We are of good courage and prefer rather to be away from home from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

Yes, that translation is worthy of insult.

the first instance of "home" is not found in any greek text. The second instance of "home" is an interpretation of the text and still not in any greek text. That was the problem for it.

Well, insult me for 3 more pages then. Do it quickly so we can move on.

your funny man,

can't let it go.

It's fine, your too sensitive today to talk anymore about this.
I just don't understand. I'm not even wrong, but you insult me as if I were wrong. You keep it up for page after page, when even if I were wrong, it would be a minor thing. Then after all the insulting, you say I am too sensitive. This whole thing is weird. You have a real problem, and it really doesn't have anything to do with me.

the first word has nothing to do with home. They are translating it this way because home can be translated later in then next few verses. So you are using a translating aid I can tell.

You should try to learn greek without the aids.

the last word in the verse "to be present" can mean to be present at home. but the former word "absent" means absent abroad, nothing to do with home persay. So this is why it is not a literal translation to add home twice especially when it's not actually in the greek.

a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Timothew, if this is so insulting why don't you report this as a flame? (Answer, because you know it will be ignored by staff since this is clearly not a flame.)

This isn't about torturism or hell, so there is no reason for you to defend your team mate. I have gradyll on ignore, so the problem is solved. If you like to look at his insults of me because they make you feel better about your doctrine, then here they are. They get old after a while. I showed that my translation was accurate, but that sticks in gradyll's craw more than if I was actually wrong. But you and gradyll are buddies, so go ahead and cheer him on as he insults me.
