I think it makes a persuasive argument that the Bible does not demand the "raqiya" be solid, and that modern bibles are correct to translate it as "expanse" rather than "firmament".

Um Chet - as has been pointed out, an article in Answers in Genesis is practically a point against your view, knowing how AIG handles information in other areas.

And the modern translation most respected by scholars is the RSV, which translates "raqiya" as "dome".

We've discussed that. Did you just happen to forget that when posting the above? Surely you want to give an accurate portrayal of the best modern translations, right? In accordance with the 8th (Catholic) or 9th (Protestant) commandment?

In Christ-

Thus the Tower of Babel?

Nope -- different languages evolved from different locations and cultures, not some mythical story of God trying (and failing -- as usual) to keep his children down.

I would if I could.

I'll settle for you actually explaining what's inaccurate about the images already provided... rather than sling mud at the artists.

If you don't know by now ... well ... I'm not sure I can help you.

I'll try though, just so you can QED what I just said:

1. How many firmaments are in that picture?

2. How many firmaments are there in reality?

Please respond, so I can say: "Thanks for the QED."

Since when does reality come into your consideration?

Since some anonymous gnostic drew a picture (or some anonymous person drew a gnostic picture) that is the pride of scientific Biblical cosmology.

I thought reality could take a hike?

3. How many firmaments are there in the Bible?

Sounds like you're admitting the Bible is wrong...

"Scientific Biblical cosmology"? Do you keep that in your "Creation Science" file folder?

If I remember correctly, those drawings are some gnostic bologna.

They were probably drawn to make the Jews look ignorant and mock God's creation.

Bad memory on display here, as well as sheer speculation.

If your memory is so good, perhaps you could tell me who the original artist is?

There are dozens of variations of that art available for downloading. The name of a particular artist for a particular example is irrelevant to this argument. But you said you thought it was of gnostic origin, and please tell us your source for that idea, unless of course you no longer remember it.

Here's another example of that concept:

I wonder where the ancient Hebrews could have gotten the wacky idea that the sky was made of a solid substance with stars set in it, and that had water above it?

From the mundane scientists of their time?

(Or maybe it's a new idea, started by neognostics?)

Or maybe God told them, which is why they wrote it down in their Bible?
