This is for anyone who's relativley savvy in the enlistment/reenlistment procedure.
Ok, here's the background story. Graduated high school, joined the Navy. Was quickly diagnosed with a depressive disorder, and was discharged.
Fast forward to now. I'm a completely different person. I got counseling for my problem, and it was all resolved. I'm cured, I'm no longer plagued by depression (well, your occasional blue day, but nothing outrageous).
Anyway, I now want to join the Army National Guard to finish the military service that I was unable to complete under the circumstances noted above. My recruiter told me to get a copy of my DD-214, which is your standard discharge form.
On it, it had a little line that said "Reenlistment Code- RE-4 : Not eligible."
Now, on discharge, I was told by the Navy that, if I were to show that I had been cured, I would be eligible for reenlistment. But this RE-4 code is scaring me.
Is the "Not eligible" line just under the circumstances that I haven't been cured? Can I get back in? Or am I stuck, forever to be condemned for what I once was?
I'm nervuos about this, and I'm going to talk to my recruiter soon, but it's easter weekend and everything, and I'd like to know ASAP if my worries are founded...
