**Mackenzie Rossman**
Mackenzie couldn't believe all of this...It was ridiculous. She kept hoping that she would wake up from this horrible nightmare. And all of these people thought this was God's doing? Well, that was fine with her, but they couldn't expect her to love this kind of a God. Really...what kind of a God would take a 17-year-old girl's parents away from her?
Mackenzie sat on the couch. The searing pain in her side almost doubled her over. She got up and looked through the kitchen cabinets for a painkiller. She found some asprin and took more than she should have, but she didn't care. The pain was too much.
Chris walked in the door almost an hour later.
"How are you doing?"-He asked, sitting next to her on the couch.
Mackenzie shrugged.
Chris ran his hand through his hair with a sigh, something he always did when he wanted to talk about something serious.
"What?"-Mackenzie asked.
"Kenz...Don't you think that maybe we should give these people a chance? What if what they're saying is ri-"
"Chris! No! I can't be-"-Mackenzie interrupted.
Chris stood up.
"Look Kenz, I'm not saying I believe it all, but I just think we should listen, that's all."-Chris said.
Mackenzie shook her head. "You can do whatever the heck you want. Count me out."
Chris sat back down. "Kenz, I don't want to make a decision now...I just want you to be open to it..."
Mackenzie looked up at him. She leaned into him, burying her face in his shoulder as sobs came over her.
Chris wrapped his strong arms around her. "Mac, we're gonna make it through this..."
A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. Mackenzie got up and looked through the peep hole. She saw Mark and opened the door. The face she saw next make her heart skip a beat. She felt the color drain from her face. She felt lightheaded as she backed away.
"It's him! Chris! I-"-Mackenzie stuttered as she stepped backwards.
**Chris Rossman**
Chris caught her and helped her keep her balance.
He felt her shaking in his arms.
"Who? Who is it?"-Chris asked frantically, looking at the door.
"He-He-Mom and dad! He-"-Mackenzie stuttered.
Chris now supported all of her weight. She turned into him, almost like she was trying to run.
"What? He what?"-Chris pressed her, grabbing her by her shoulders.
"He try to kill me! He stabbed me!"-Mackenzie cried.
Chris looked at the man. He had never felt so much rage for one person as he did in that moment.
Mackenzie continued to shake in his arms.
