ive been playing violin for 8 years and i want to learn the mandolin. i was wondering if they have any similarities other than being tuned the same. thanks

Hey! I just made a thread like this a few weeks ago.
I just got my madolin back in November. I don't know about having similarities with the violin, but its very simaler to guitar, which I've played since I was ten. You basically play lead and rythm on it. I don't know how to read music, so I don't do much lead besides messing around with my blues scales, and I know the chords... not that that info would really help you at all.

if you have violin experience then learning the mandolin is very easy- mandolins are tuned on the same scale as a violin. i love my mandolin lol
