You know, I've been in hundreds of churches, and spent many an hour talking to elders and pastors, but sitting here now, I can't think of a single practical thing I learned from any of it.

In fact, I've had pastors tell me what I've learned about life is wrong because it's not from Christians. That was the last straw by the way, I walked away from church after that, and don't intend to go back.

So to answer the question, I think Christians should learn to view people as individuals and not a system of beliefs. You can be friends with, and even love, someone with wildly divergent views and opinions from your own. Almost sounds more appealing, does it not?

How to take a lot of crap, how to be patient, and how to choose your battles.

From where I'm from, at least, being a non-believer and letting anyone in on that secret will get you pushed around and teased (or worse), even by your own family. So what I think I can learn from that is to be a better person, to not judge someone by their beliefs, to not give them grief just because they are not the same as I am.

For a while I was an atheist. I was punished by my family for it. I wasn't allowed to babysit anymore because I might "confuse" the kids, even though I only brought up my position on God after I'd been prodded by the adults for weeks on end and had no interest in talking to my cousins about it.

It was brought up at meals, at get-togethers, when I was coming or going from the house. I only broached the subject once (the first time that I had said it), and they didn't let it go until a little tiff I had when I just couldn't stand it anymore (they don't know I'm Christian now, they don't know what I am).

I think we can learn a lot from this. I sure as heck did.

trendy ≠ wise

Many things. Biggest of all ... what not to do in relationships.

I've mentioned this before, but just go to any non-Christian "relationship" forums. It's one disaster after another. And the poor advice given by people who haven't a clue. And validated by 99% of the other members. It's no wonder the world is in the mess it's in with its pervasive un-Godly mentality.

I do. I think there is a lot to learn from them , their philosophies, the Culture which they endorse and follow, and their worldview including origins .

From having been an Unbelieving professed Atheist for at least 10 adult years....Ive learned a lot thru that experience from a sociological standpoint and the lure of needing to be Ones own Authority and never Owned by someone more important than Self.

Chasing after money and objects in life is an exercise in futility.

We can learn a lot from nihilism and how it ruins a person.

Well, that was educational. Many thanks!

Lol because you get treated like crap and viewed as the spawn of satan if it's anything other than a cross.
Well..Jesus did call a bunch of people children of the devil once. Paul called those who were not regenerated children of disobedience. I get what you're saying though, and I would tend to disagree. Perhaps that's the case for some people, but those might be asinine and welcome it.

Well I'm sure that just by not believing, non-Christians are technically being asinine and welcoming it according to some lol.

Try living in the world as a non-Christian before you take a stance...I know it sounds like it would be easier because somebody like me doesn't have to deal with all the social pressures and criticisms of a Christian lifestyle. But even though the "world" may seem secular in the way they live, it's still pretty bent on being religious in the way they believe.

Funny, I haven't been treated like crap for being an atheist on these forums..

In real life I've never been insulted for being an atheist.. Where da ya'll live? The Bible belt? Lol. If anything I see atheists being more mean to the religious..

I'm redoing my main bath-rest room. I will need some advice on replacing flooring and I would prefer the advice from someone who actually knows what needs be done. If they have a 'fish' doodad on their lapel, I'll be delighted. If not, I still need to fix the flooring.

And sometimes, people like that ask me about my Christian beliefs. So I'll share. (But I won't lock them in the potty until I preach to them for half an hour.)

There are lots of things to learn. I'm wondering if the OP had anything or a subject in mind?
