A few years ago I had to deal with doing laundry when my washer broke. I couldn't afford to fix it because I live in the middle nowhere and everything cost more to get someone to come out here. So, I had to deal with doing it all by hand for about 4 months while I saved up enough money to get it fixed. I tried the good old scrubbing it with my hands and even on a washboard and got blisters then calluses on my knuckles. That was unpleasant to say the least. LOL So I researched and found the 5gallon bucket method, tweaked it a bit and made a pretty decent system. (I will post a pic I created of it below) I am waiting on yet another part to come in for my washer and have been having to do it by hand...again. So I figured I would post this so others laundry can be easier in case of power loss or some other reason you can't use the washer. ( Use laundry soap sparingly so rinsing is easier)

This is genius. But I hope your washer gets fixed soon!

When the power goes out ....
The Lord has prepared me for a while now, for when the power goes out. In the 70's they had what was known as a wash-o-matic. It is small but runs on electricity. A few shirts and under wear is all that can be done at a time. I use a small solar generator(500 watts) by lion energy. and when I am done i use one 100 watt solar panel to charge back up what was used. In a little while it will get dark so i have 2 wall mount lights that use less than 10 watts from the 70's as well, that is powered by one small solar generator(300 watts). I have a 60 watt solar panel that hangs right outside the door that recharges what I use for light. Thought some one might appreciate ideas for when the power goes out. Blessings!

It looks like a good system, MO. When my wife and I first got married, we did not have the money for a washer, so we bought a little machine with a tub with a top that ran an agitator. It did not clean many articles at once, but it got the job done. Gosh, that was 50 years ago.

You wash your clothing with a toilet plunger? In the Philippines washing clothing can be a social event. They call their wash tub a caramba. They use it to take their bath also. They do not have to heat the water.
