I believe someone told me Lakewood Church in Houston was Baptist (Joel Osteen's church). If they were, I don't know if they are still in any convention.

I don't believe so...if it was, that was a long long time ago. The 700 Club did a story on Osteen and it seems they have roots in the early tongues movement...I could be wrong and often am.

Actually, I'm probably wrong. I went to their website, and although I didn't see anything amiss with their "what we believe" section, they didn't mention Baptist anywhere. The guy who told me might have been thinking they were baptist because you see so many baptist mega-churches around here.

How about FB Dallas? I know it's huge, but don't know how it ranks.

Saddleback is the biggest w/20.000 attending every Sunday. The Houston church is 10,000+. FBD used to be 14,000 members. Bellvue in Memphis is also quite large. My home church in Atlanta, Second Ponce De Leon (3,500) fits the statistical profile (2,000) of a mega church but refuses to grow any larger. At 4,000 they start another church some where. They have been doing this for 45 years. A daughter church, Wieuka Road church was at one time over 10,000. FBC Atlanta is also quite large.

I am not used to huge churches since I don't like crowds. But my church give and take have about 2,000!

The "Mega" Churches ususally don't promote any denonmination--

Is anyone familiar with The University Catherdreal in LA, CA?

(Dr. Eugene Scott was the Pastor, I believe his wife Melissa is Pastoring since his death earlier this year).

Now that I think about it, I know Whatever they are they are not baptist...

I imagine that the Potter's House in South Dallas might have something to contribute to this argument. Don't know if they are officially Baptist or not, but their belief statement would certainly lead me to believe so. That TD Jakes sure knows how to pack em in.

anyone know where to find info on some of the biggest???? the only two I can think of off the top of my heard are
First Baptist Church in Hammond Indiana
and
Victory Baptist church in North Augusta SC

which ones do you know of???

My brother attended preacher's college there and went to First Baptist in Hammond. Jack Hyles was like a Dad to my brother. Sad, that he is gone now. I think it has been a few years.

Actually I think Osteen is Charismatic or Pentecostal.

Take it from a Houston native...

Lakewood church is non-denominational.

I attend First Baptist Church in Houston and it is quite large but it is no Lakewood.

Lakewood Church starting having thier services in the old Compaq Center. The Compaq Center is where the Houston Rockets used to play their games. The building is huge and they have 4 services offered every weekend.

Hey may be Non-denominational but he definitely has a Charismatic slant. In fact, he belongs to the heretical Word Faith movement as this website below shows:
