  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't understand how people that profess to be good christians use the Lord's name in vein and never think a thing of it. What are they thinking? Is it appropriate to say something to them or just walk away?

Well you certainly wouldn't want to embarrass anyone so if the situation was applicable then certainly you would want to speak up and let someone know. Sometimes people don't even know they are doing something like that because it is so prevalent in our culture. My wife from time to time says [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]. However that is just as derogatory as GD because both are taking the Lords name in vain. Before you say anything you just have to gauge the situation.

IMHO…taking the Lord’s Name in vain isn’t really about cursing…

…it’s about taking the Lords Name in an unrighteous manner.

Like professing God…and yet approving of...or encouraging ungodliness.

Of course we all do well to be doers of the Word in this understanding:

Col 3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Col 3:6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,
Col 3:7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.
Col 3:8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.

Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

And so on…

I'm with you. I do my best to never take the Lord's name in vain. It just feels so wrong for some reason (probably because it is lol). Anytme i do I immediatley reconcile.

It does bother me when people just use it over excessivley, but sometimes they really do do it without thinking, so I can forgive them for that.
