Knowing what the truth is.

Presumably Dave, you believe you know the voice of Jesus. How do you know you actually are one of the ones that know Jesus voice, and would you say as you know his voice, that he shows you the truth and that you don't believe anything to the contrary.

It seems every christian I know has different takes on the truth and they all believe they hear Jesus' voice and are following him.

You only have 3 choices, 2 of them false. 1) God alone saves sinners. 2) Sinners save themselves with God's help. And 3), sinners save themselves apart from God's help. When you hit on the right answer, the bible harmonizes and you know it's Jesus speaking from experience.

The truth is in the Bible. Maybe what each person believes is a portion of the whole truth (as long as they are not deceived, off course). I believe the Scriptures have different dimensions to it. If you know your Word thoroughly it will be almost impossible to deceive you. So the best remedy for confusion is to study the Bible.

A funny thing, Pilate asked Jesus the same thing.

Therefore Pilate entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered, “Are you saying this on your own initiative, or did others tell you about Me?” Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

My point here is that truth is not a doctrine. Truth is the person of Jesus. If we know Jesus, we know truth. It's really that simple but we complicate things.

Of course I understand your question, why this diversity, why all the differences in teachings? My view is that theology isn't the most important thing, since theology is not the ground for salvation. The truth is truth even when our theology is flawed. So if Christ sets us free, we are free, and we got the passport to heaven. Then you are of the truth.

This is what we have heard:
assuming that you have heard about Him and were taught in Him, as the truth is in Jesus, -Ephesians 4:21
to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, -Ephesians 4:22
and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, -Ephesians 4:23
and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. -Ephesians 4:24

Jesus is the truth of God’s love!
When we keep obeying His commandment to love one another, the truth of His love is in us.

The truth is that we acknowledge that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God !
We who acknowledge the Son has the Father. We abide in what we have heard from the beginning, then we abide in the Son and the Father. That is the truth !!!

Follow the history of Christianity back to the beginning. It worked for me.

The Gospel is the truth, because it tells us that Jesus died to reconcile us to God.
The Bible is true because it prophesies Jesus' coming, tells us what Jesus did when he was here, and tells us how we can put the Christian faith, based on Christ, into practice.

Lord Jesus is the Truth. God revealed Lord Jesus, but few recognised Him. So the problem is not that God has not shown us the truth. It's that we are unable to recognise Truth when we see Him.

The answer to this problem is the Holy Spirit. It's His role to lead people into the Truth. This is complicated by the reality that people have all kinds of misunderstandings and confusion about Truth. This is why it is vital to have a renewed mind.

If people would quite trying to work everything out and trust God to reveal the truth, we would be much better off. There would be greater unity and less confusion, Unfortunately spiritual pride kicks in and people will fight over trivial points of interpretation that mean little in eternity. Meanwhile, the world slides into chaos and then to a Christless eternity. Being "right" is greatly overrated.

He does. The church received and preached the truth from the beginning. The doctrine of Sola Scriptura, ironically, as been the primary cause of most of the division of beliefs, especially the extremes, within the Christian world. Because then everyone becomes an authority.

He does. The Gospel is a simple message of love. In order to recieve this truth one must recieve His Holy Spirit and walk with Jesus Christ of Nazareth daily. Only He can keep you on the narrow road of that truth. Be blessed.

He has. Read your Bible. Much of what modern Christians espouse as beliefs depart sharply from Scripture in many ways. But it requires a solid understanding of the Bible, and a heart that is hungry for God, and the illumination of God's Spirit to see this.

When Jesus said that His disciples would know the truth and that this truth would set them free, He was referring to the word of God- "Sanctify them in truth; Thy word is truth." Jn. 17:17
What the word was to set them free from was sin and spiritual death-
Rom.8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus (Gospel) hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
A sure evidence that a person has been born again is the new drive they exhibit in treasure hunting of and about the Bible. (Mt.13:44-46) As a byproduct of this, is their objective hunts in things even outside the Bible.

Well hon because not all Christians are Christians. Many are following false prophets and are believing doctrine other than the Bible. When you twist the word of God and get people to believe it and follow, you get people straying from the narrow path at a fork in the road and they start walking on that wide path to destruction. At that point the Truth becomes fuzzy and the Lord's light goes dim and they can no longer see the truth. It is a personal choice people make without realizing it. If they were to turn back to God's word, they would see the truth again because it is always bright and easy to see but by looking at other doctrine besides the Word of God, the Truth becomes dark and the people become blind.

Now that is interesting comment, one claims to be a Christian, but their not. That is what you call a oxymoron. Many may think if you don't think or believe is I do you aren't a Christian, that is a foolish and dangerous judgement. Christianity is more about the heart than the dogma.

Ultimately the Truth is a person. Jesus perfectly represented to us what it meant to be honest, to live in the truth, and to speak the truth. If we think and act like Jesus then we live in the Truth. So What would Jesus say or do is always a good test.

Some other test questions you might apply:
1) Who do these words serve and glorify - God or the person speaking?
2) Is anything that has been said here contradictory to scripture?
3) Is anything this person says scientifically inaccurate, was it accidental that they got that wrong or does it serve a clear agenda that they keep repeating factually inaccurate claims?
4) What do honest people, who do not stand to benefit or lose from this person's success say?

Please don't listen to all those people's interpretations. I recommend that you read and study the Bible directly and choose to be a member of the church that interprets the Bible based on its own assumptions instead of some person's interpretations. What the Bible assumes to be true is true because it is indeed the Word of God.
