It is possible it is something he did with the Jewish people. If someone did it as a courtesy I could see him not allowing it in favor of an embrace because of the theological problems. That would make sense.

This Pope has shown such disrespect to the traditions of the Papacy I am no longer surprised by anything he does

I mean, I get it if it's flu season or something and he doesn't want the faithful to get sick (or himself), but that's something that should be made clear ahead of time so you don't have a line of people embarrassing themselves when they try to humble themselves and honor him.

The office of the Pope deserves respect, this is why the Pope has splendid vestments or a cathedral has stained glass windows, I doubt most of the holy Popes enjoyed dressing up or being carried on a chair, but this was for the faithful, to show them what was important, his own personal preference was not taken into consideration
