Good point, jckstraw72. My comment was really more a confirmation of what GregConstantine observed earlier in the thread about this situation making it more difficult for us to witness to others than saying that others are somehow justified in disliking Christianity because Kim Davis is a Christian, and a comment to others who have said that we can't know her heart or what have you.

I think evangelicalism, televangelists, revivals, holy rollers, and the snake oil salesmen in America did TREMENDOUS damage to the Christian brand, and they took down the Orthodox, Catholics, and other Christians with them. People have been watching scandals, perverts, greedy scumbags, charlatans, hucksters, and hypocrites in evangelicalism for years in America, and it's a turn-off. Atheism has become the preferred alternative. Why? Because some atheists sound far more rational and human than their evangelical counterparts.

American Christians are too quick to create heroes out of nowhere with practically no vetting process. Sarah Palin is a great example.

Just when I get utterly fed up with the sycophantic, arrogant, elitist, commie left wing, I listen to the right wing and find myself equally wanting to vomit. Just get on Facebook and listen to the way Republican tea party posters talk about kicking all the (f bomb) illegals out of 'Merica and kill 'em all. 'They're illegal and they can take their stinking nasty children with them, dirty Mexicans.' And if it were just one or two posts, but no, it's hundreds and hundreds and they get so many "likes."

If you listen to so many of the people cheering on Kim Davis, they're making Christians look bad. I could list ten different anti-gay comments they make on FB, most of which involve the pushing in of fecal material/stools and rectums. It makes me nauseous!

I've never seen a point in time where liberals looked more elitist, commie-like, arrogant, condescending, and their eyes more gleaming to take away our rights. And equally I've never seen a more red neck backwards mullet-wearing hickish group of Republicans in all my life. There are nothing but poles now, with no middle ground or common sense.

I guess I'm at a point where I almost feel like I envy monks at times. Take both Kim Davis and the sodomites and just flee them both and go into the desert in the monastery. A plague on both their houses. I tire of hearing about sodomy, and hearing a triple-divorcee preachin' the 'word' against them. I with government would get out of the marriage business altogether.

But just as I fantasize about running into the hills and hiding in the monastery, the truth that the devil flaps his wings into such holy places and does overtime on monks comes to the fore and the reality is there. We can hide in a cabin in the middle of nowhere, and we can't run from good old human sin and pathetic bickering and whining.

People just aren't rational anymore. They're driven by emotion in just insane fits of rage and simpering whining spurts.

I often wonder how much longer this country will last....hence the reason I am stockpiling ammo and guns! LOL

As far as I can see, it wasn't Davis looking for the media spotlight. It was the people who want to advance their perversion. Blaming Davis for it seems unreasonable in my estimation, all the more so because this is clearly not going to end in the offices of civil servants (the term meaning that they serve the people, not the government). If she had, BEFORE these people sought their license, gone out and drawn media attention, you might have more of a point. As far as I can tell, she sat quietly in her office. Even the report that she said "Thank you" to the judge said that she did so quietly. If she was noisy when she got out, that was an entirely different story.

And I think we are ALL subject to emotion, including the temptations to rage and whining.

I have been unjustly arrested. It was no fun. It was NOT summer camp. I was stripped down to my underpants and searched. I really object to people making nothing of being arrested for indefinite periods. You DON'T know what it's like, begging your pardon.

Before I decided to turn my life around, get serious about my faith, go back to school, finish my veterinary degree and met my gf and all that I use to be a professional thief. I went to jail for crimes I knowingly committed and justly so, I'm pretty sure I know what the correctional system is like.

I'm sorry our experiences were different?

I guess they were.
I think there's something you feel in unjust arrest that you don't feel when you know you deserved it.

Glad to hear you have no argument about being disciplined. So will we see any?

I'm sorry Rumeister but you tend to make way too many assumptions and read things that we are not saying.

Guys check this out. Written by a stalwart conservative, Rod Dreher, (who happens to be Orthodox) Even he does not agree with making Kim Davis into some hero or martyr:

his argument boils down to "it looks bad to non-Christians." well, of course it does. so does protesting PP clinics, and putting an icon on your desk at work. maybe praising her isn't the best-i dunno- but it sure ain't cause of that reason.

a lot of people at PSU think the Willard Preacher is a moron, and a lot of Christians are angry about what he does. but then there are those whose hearts are pricked by his ministry ...

No matter whether heart was in the right place or not, that 'show' Huckabee put on and that she did participate in makes me feel really uncomfortable. I disagree with how she reacted to it as well. 'Thank you so much! I love you all so much!' It sounded like a celebrity thanking her fans. I suppose the feeling was increased by the show that Huckabee put on along with all the fans. Seeing that though, makes me think of all the others who were persecuted severely -physically and mentally - for their faith, yet never took part in something like this.

Ultimately, the person I lost the most respect for is Huckabee. Seriously...that is the exact opposite of Christianity...our reward is in heaven not on earth. We are to be humble, and Huckabee is certainly making it hard for Davis to do that, even if she wanted to. It was an example of televangelism at its extreme stereotype.

What he did is nothing like keeping an icon on our desks at work. That is quiet witnessing of our faith. Protesting PP clinics is also different, and can be done properly or improperly, just as the release of someone like Kim Davis could have been done properly instead of the show it became.

yah, as i said, all this may not be right. but we need a better reason than "it looks bad to non-Christians" because, well, Christianity looks bad to non-Christians!

your points about humility are much more on point, i think

don't pretend it's a bad thing!
When it goes round and round in your head for about an hour plus - and when you can only remember the first three stanzas, something good turns into something else ;)
