I used to live in Washington DC. It has the highest murder rate and the strictest gun control laws in the US. All the criminals have guns and the average citizens have no way of defending themselves.
That ignores so many other socioeconomic factors. DC has a lot of crime in general compared to most places. I would expect it to have more gun crime anyway.

The Brady campaign ranks states based on gun laws, with A being the most strict and F being the most gun friendly. Funny how the states with the most stringent laws have the highest murder rates.
But you cannot compare New Jersey with it's demographics to Wyoming. Thats ridiculous.

Why not compare the US to Britain. Huge statistical sample, similar lifestyles, similar urbanisation (heck the UK is more urbanised). Similar burglary levels, similar rape level etc etc but surprise surprise far less muder rate.

His point was gun control has no effect on crime
So why is the US a murder haven compared to Western Europe and Australia and Japan. Similar socioeconomics, urbanisation etc. Heck look at Canada. You cannot you crossed the border for the most part but the murder levels are way less. Compare Philadelphia with Toronto, similar sized cities. I bet Philadelphia has a much higher murder rate.

According to the UN, Britain has the highest violent crime rate of industrialized nations as of 2000.

So why is the murder rate way less than the US. This proves the point. Other places have similar socioeconomics and crime levels but their murder rate is way less. Obvious conclusion that because of guns in the US and how easy it is for guns to kill the US murder rate is thus artificially enhanced. Thanks.

Funny how after they outlawed guns, violent crime went up over 200 percent. They are higher than the US in every almost every category of violent crime ( per capita) except murder. I bet they catch us on that on eventually. Over there you can't even defend yourself, I'm so glad I live in the US.

LOL, this proves my point. Americas murder rate is so high despite the fact other nations have similar overall crime levels. It's guns that enhance this rate.

As I said earlier have your guns but realise that it also has a price and that price is that the US has a ridiculous murder rate and that the American people are willing to tolerate killing their fellow citizens at a silly level.

Just for interest:

US murder rate is about 3.7 times the UK rate. So as someone pointed out the UK has more (or at least similar) violent crime but somehow only kill at a rate almost 4 times less.

Why is this?

The difference is it is so much more likely for US citizens to be killed due to guns.

Could be because the US has 5 times the population of Britain.
This is why some people should not be allowed to post with adults.

Even my opposite here Stat101 will tell you why your post is so silly.

We are talking rates. Do you understand what a rate is? What a percentage is?

Geez. Some people.

I stand corrected. Doesn't mean I agree with you though. ;)

I guess a gun is the only thing you can kill someone with, right?
Oh come on Stat101. I expect better from you. Of course not but guns are easier to kill with. You can stab a person 3 times and probably not kill them. You might but there is a good chance you wont. Shoot them 3 times and you probably have a good chance of killing them. Bullets travelling at 800mph do more damge on average than a 4inch knife would. Both unpleasant but I'll take my knife wound chances anyday over the .357 slug. And so would you.
