  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Good. This "socialism" boogeyman the right has invented is nonsense.
Does that strategy even work anymore?

Socialism has NEVER worked in all of history. That is not a boogeyman, it is fact.

Since there is no working model, and the states that are more socialistic in nature are bleeding citizens to other states that are not.

The only defense the left has two it is

1. There really has never been a socialist country
2. What about Denmark

Or to call it a bogey man.

All three fail factually

What the left is offering is a Presidential candidate regarded as the most liberal Politician in congress (when she was there) and a vp who speaks approvingly of socialism.

Good to know who we are faced with.

What MAGA world has not yet realized, the majority American people support policies which they label as Socialist. IMO, Gov Waltz will effectively drive that message home.

Example:
"I represented a rural district. Donald Trump won it by 15 points in 2016 when I won. Those are folks that want a fair shot. We need to point out the reason rural America hurts is because robber barons like these guys have come in. These are the guys that take money out of our public schools for private schools to give vouchers to people already going to private schools. They undermine the basic social safety net that makes this country great."

Public schools.
Public health care.
Family leave.
Tuition assistance for Public community colleges and universities
Work place safe guards
etc

These are the policies that make a difference for working families.

If MAGA want's to label it socialism - so be it. It's a losing message.

Two days after Mr. Floyd’s death, with protests in Minneapolis turning increasingly violent, the city’s mayor, Jacob Frey, asked Mr. Walz to deploy the National Guard. Hours later, the city’s police chief submitted a written request for 600 troops. But it was not until the next afternoon that Mr. Walz signed an executive order allowing the Guard to assist cities.

“It was obvious to me that he froze under pressure, under a calamity, as people’s properties were being burned down,” said State Senator Warren Limmer, a Republican who helped lead a committee that investigated the response to the unrest. He suggested that Mr. Walz’s personal sympathies toward protesters might have delayed a muscular response.

...because housing is expensive, partly because so many people want to live there.

And yet, those supposedly socialist states absolutely dominate in per capita gdp:

and median household income:

and educational attainment:

and life expectancy:

infant mortality:

Heck, they even hold their own on violent crime (which is a mixed bag):

and yet with all that wonderful effects - people are leaving in droves -

Example:

Another year, another dip in California’s population.
As of July, California’s population fell to an estimated 38,965,000, down by 75,400 over 12 months, according to recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Orange and San Diego counties were also among the top 10 U.S. counties that lost the most residents in the July-to-July counts; their populations fell by 14,617 and 7,203 people, respectively.
“Entering this century, when California’s still-growing population was 34 million, we were predicted to reach 45 million by 2020 and almost 60 million by 2040,” Times political columnist George Skelton wrote this week. “So much for that.”
“My quality of life is better than it has ever been,” wrote Alberto E., who moved to New Mexico from Alameda County. “Both because I’ve advanced in my career but also because I can live comfortably, save money and have a mortgage in a place that is more affordable. I do miss California dearly, but not enough to move back.”

Note: - the quality of life is better outside of the state.

I don't know why you wrote "and yet" since I pointed out the same reason that your article did:

"Both because I’ve advanced in my career but also because I can live comfortably, save money and have a mortgage in a place that is more affordable."

How about we turn this question around:

If you want an illiberal right-wing authoritarian so much, why don't you move to Hungary?

If you can answer that question for yourself, you might be able to answer it for the rest of us, too.

Take money out of public schools? Whose money is it? Schools don't have their own money, it comes from those people who send their kids to schools. The public desiring the money to follow the child is not taking out of the public hands. Having no choice does.

Government takes all your money, and you own nothing. Just like we are stuck paying for teachings and schools we do not want.... It is about who controls the money of the public money.

I do not want socialistic authoritarianism. But a constitutional republic, government by the people and for the people. Schools for the people (it is already by the peoples funds) not by the government.
If you can answer that question for yourself, you might be able to answer it for the rest of us, too.
Not just me, EVERYONE, is able.....When they have a choice what their money provides.

Our money....used to support vouchers for rich kids who are already attending private schools.

And if you want to send your kids to private school...but all means do so. That's what my parents did. They didn't run to the government asking for public school funds.

How about staying on topic for a change?
How about you try following a discussion and applying your own standards consistently for a change?

I was responding to @ralliann's question by turning it back around on her. You marked her question as "winner":

1722966754122.png

so it would seem to me that the question is on topic. If you want to play forum police, that's fine, but don't be so nakedly inconsistent about it.

You turned nothing back on me. School choice does not take away YOUR CHOICE. That is a strawman. You choose for you and your children, I choose for me and my kid.

This is a major problem with socialists, they turn to fascist tactics.
