  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You turned nothing back on me. School choice does not take away YOUR CHOICE. That is a strawman. You choose for you and your children, I choose for me and my kid.
What are you talking about? Nothing in the post I quoted had anything to do with school choice and nothing in my response to you had anything to do with school choice.

You asked:
"If you want socialism why not immigrate to a socialist country? Why come here anyway?"

to which I responded:
"If you want an illiberal right-wing authoritarian so much, why don't you move to Hungary?"

Do you have me mixed up with @wing2000 ?

I contribute taxes to the public education system, although my spouse and I are childless cat people.

I contribute taxes to the Social Security fund so seniors and other people who can't work can hopefully get by with a share of my earnings along with what they've put aside for themselves.

These are 'good neighborly' things that We The People have collectively decided to do. This is American-style socialism (if you will). Democratically elected representatives enact progressive policies.

Public education is definitely under attack by the GOP, and even Social Security is no longer the sacrosanct 'third rail' that it used to be in conservative circles. So as both parties are now seeking different ways to use the power of government, you can decide who's trying to be a good neighbor, and who is the party of "I got mine."

I would note also that in Minnesota, the Democratic Party is officially the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. The Farmer-Labor Party was a supporter of FDR's New Deal reforms. The conservatives of the day called that socialism, and now (like Social Security) it's all perfectly normal and accepted.

Sorry yes, I did mistake you for someone else...

You asked:
"If you want socialism why not immigrate to a socialist country? Why come here anyway?"

to which I responded:
"If you want an illiberal right-wing authoritarian so much, why don't you move to Hungary?"

Do you have me mixed up with @wing2000 ?
To which I said I want a constitutional republic government for the people by the people. That is what this country is. Your thinking on who should relocate reminds me of squatters going into someone's house and thinking they have a right to simply move in and stay...

And yet you're voting for an illiberal right-wing wannabe-authoritarian.

That is what this country is. Your thinking on who should relocate reminds me of squatters going into someone's house and thinking they have a right to simply move in and stay...
My thinking on who should relocate? I didn't say anybody should relocate. I reframed your question to help illustrate to you how ridiculous it was. It sounds like you're part way towards getting my point.

This is a major problem with socialists, they turn to fascist tactics.
You've got the VP candidates mixed up. JD Vance is the one writing glowing endorsements for books by fascists.

Video Resurfaces of Walz Declaring ‘One Person’s Socialism Is Another Person’s Neighborliness’

"socialism" is the spring board to communism ... both are devoid of or limits individual freedom. The left has moved more so into communistic territory ... communism NEVER ends well.

There is no perfect government system because mankind is faulty.

Democrats often "site" constitutional rights yet at the same time try to amend it to their liking.

We should be wise to both parties ... if and when they are proposing changes to our countries constitution.

Our constitution is for ALL American citizens ... it's difficult to change and should be.

The bigger government gets the more inefficient and oppressive it becomes.

We need smaller government.

What the left is offering is a Presidential candidate regarded as the most liberal Politician in congress (when she was there) and a vp who speaks approvingly of socialism.

Good to know who we are faced with.
Yikes! I pray and hope she doesn’t win.

What do you think he meant by that statement? What's the most generous understanding of what he said?
And yet you're voting for an illiberal right-wing wannabe-authoritarian.
How so? You can still choose to school your kids in things you want.
Do you even believe we should have the right to vote on Schools? I have to ask considering your remarks. If we the people are given a vote on what academic curricula we want for our kids in schools, and Parents choose to leave out "social" instruction be left out, just academic basics, do you believe we should be able to vote? Because it sounds like you may not think so.
My thinking on who should relocate? I didn't say anybody should relocate. I reframed your question to help illustrate to you how ridiculous it was. It sounds like you're part way towards getting my point.
It is not ridiculous. Should we be able to vote on these things? This is just one example of things we choose concerning what kind of lives we live.

Right we have chosen it. it is not "Pure socialism".

Public education has already been attacked. Adding all kinds of things that we did not know, nor did we know why. We want our kids to be taught academics which is what we thought we paid for.
It is adding "socialistic" elements yes. But again we voted on it. It is not complete by any means. What we are being faced with today, is complete socialism. Americans do not seem to want that. So other tactics are being employed.

Who's talking about instituting "pure socialism"? Certainly Walz is not.

He is saying that some people look at those things that you and I agree were voted on democratically, and calling it 'socialism'.

Our money....used to support vouchers for rich kids who are already attending private schools.
The money for education should follow the child. That is what it is for.
And if you want to send your kids to private school...but all means do so. That's what my parents did. They didn't run to the government asking for public school funds.
I don't need to send my kid to private school. I already pay foe education, Not social indoctrination.
Let our money go for what is supposed to pay for. You want your kid to learn all the social stuff, choose that for kid at their school.

That's not what my money is for. It's for building an education system that is open to all.

In most places you have elected local school boards. In many states an elected top schools official, not to mention the legislature and governor.
If we the people are given a vote on what academic curricula we want for our kids in schools, and Parents choose to leave out "social" instruction be left out, just academic basics, do you believe we should be able to vote? Because it sounds like you may not think so.

None of which really has anything to do with who is President or Vice President of the United States.
