  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Maybe because people feel that the government should provide for them which is nuts;, foolish amd a very bad idea. A government can take away what it provides.

Republicans have been trying to call liberal policies "socialist" at least since WWII. It is a meaningless charge except to their base.
Not when it is the Democratic candidates that self identify as socialist. That fact makes the rest of your post moot. It's not a charge from those horrible Republicans - it is what is coming out of their own mouths.

On SSDI on my father's record who until such time as he literally no longer could suppored his OWN family( even refusing to take a pay cut to qualify for government assistance when they found out I was disabled.

There is a time and a place for assistance HOWEVER itsould be very limited and in most cases limited in scope as well.

For eample, food stamps should only be allowed to be used to purchase certain foods.

I also see a difference in for example regular social security and SSDI as opposed to SSI and TANF. The first two were earned the second two are means tested a form of welfare. That is why if someone is on SSDI and has other income that is not from working that is fine. For example, I have an an aunt and two uncles on SSDI under their own record they paid into the system any of them could have one million dollars in the bank and still get the payments why because they earned it . If however, you are on SSI ( which is what I was on until my father was found disabled by the way you are VERY limited in what you are allowed because it is welfare and under the idea that beggars cannot be choosers.

If you are going to be on needs based government assistance then do not expect to have what people who are not have.

The same applies to private assistance though if you come to me asking for money for x y z NEED I have the right to expect and yes even demand prove that the money is going to X Y Z NEED.

That is why often whenchurches pay for people's bills say power bill or whatever tey make the check out to the company and not the person to do have what they want

Interestingly, countries that provide such things tend to either have strongly capitalist economies or rely on selling goods to countries that have strongly capitalist economies. Universal healthcare and public school don't make a country socialist. Rather, they make for educated and healthy citizens.

Bernie Sanders self-identifies as a Democratic-Socialist, the political system of most of Europe. Sometimes, folks who dislike the very successful European system call the countries "welfare states", which simply means that the government has undertaken to provide certain goods and services to all.

There have been movements in the US to reject all of this and to abolish Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, government guaranteed civil rights, workplace protection. To be blunt, some folks want one of the worst systems: unregulated capitalism with no safety net for the poor other than handouts from charities.

Tampon Tim has a striking resemblance to Elmer Fudd
They both hunt.

But by all means, I think the Trump campaign and his followers should deride the looks of pudgy white 50+ middle American men.

Well 2017 was 5 years before and we don't know the reasons why it failed. The people later voted for their representatives who chose to implement one 5 years after. Like I said. A republic in action.

Despite new criticism, Trump told Walz in 2020 he was 'very happy' with his handling of George Floyd protests

But at the time, Trump expressed support for Walz's handling of the protests, according to a recording of a phone call obtained by ABC News -- telling a group of governors that Walz "dominated," and praising his leadership as an example for other states to follow.

"I know Gov. Walz is on the phone, and we spoke, and I fully agree with the way he handled it the last couple of days," Trump told a group of governors on June 1, 2020, according to a recording of the call, in which he also called Walz an "excellent guy."

"I was very happy with the last couple of days, Tim," Trump continued. "You called up big numbers and the big numbers knocked them out so fast it was like bowling pins."

Trump's contemporaneous approval of Walz's decision-making in the wake of George Floyd's murder undermines one of Republicans' most vocal lines of attack against the vice presidential nominee.

That is right - President Trump complimented the man once he got off his best intentions and responded to the Mayor's please for help -

I think this is pretty telling honestly. Walz did a horrible job in dealing with the riots. He let rhe riots go unchecked for far too long. Then when he finally did something Trump actually called him and praised him for it. Says more about Trump than it does about Walz.

Man I wish folks would be willing to tell the whole story and not leave out half of it.
