I usually work the fuel desk at work, and right in front of it is the Sirus Radio display. Last night, I had it set on the Golden Oldies, and this song came on. A driver said to me something like this:

I really feel sorry for the young people today. They will not have any music to look back on.

Sad, but he might be right. (Rich gets back on his soapbox!) My parent's music is still around. For example, music like this is timeless!

In The Mood-Glenn Miller

Another example. Here is how the song appeared in 1939:

Over The Rainbow

(off topic--did you know that this song was cut from the movie, only to be restored at the last moment?)

Now, my generation took the song, and updated it, and it is still very pretty!

Over The Rainbow-The Demensions

More trivia. Over 30 doowop groups recorded this song!

My second favorite movie ever.

(Dawn must admit she really doesn't like doowop)

Don't hit me!! I can save face, David listens to it all the time

Hey! To each his own. But, and I hope that you will agree with this--those groups had talent! Their voiced blended so well, and yes, many of those groups really did start on street corners! Here is one of the best doowopers ever! The Marcels sing (and don't ask me why there are all the pics of the Platters featured!)

Blue Moon

Now I know that this one is before many of you all remember, but now, just for fun, you might remember this version, by Sha Na Na, featuring the one and only Bowser! They had fun with the music, but listen to the same great harmonies in the music!

I'll agree the harmony is good.

Hiya, Rich!

I remember Sha Na Na doing this one.....I used to watch their tv show way back when. I'm not so fond of doo wop stuff either, but can appreciate the great harmonies. :)

Hi, Dawn!

Is it really late over there? I hope you catch a bit of sleep at some point. What are VBS lessons?

It was 3 am when I woke up, it's now 5:15 am and still not back asleep

VBS is Vacation Bible School. I teach the adult class here. We will be doing a study on God's open arms, a study on Grace.

Oh, that's early to wake up. Perhaps you might just stay up and then catch a nap later on in the day if you can.

Various folk in CF have mentioned VBS, now that I think of it. It seems to go for a week? We don't have anything like that over here. It sounds really awesome, Dawn.

The VBS that I attend lasts for 5 days. We have lots of kids attend, most times this is the only time of year they hear about Jesus and His love. The folks that I have in my class are normally older, wise sages that have way more knowledge of the Bible then I could imagine. I love our discussions and most times stand back and listen. We don't always agree but our common ground is our salvation.

I'm thinking I'll try to head back to bed.

Ok--well, at least we agree there! And our VBS is over some time ago. I would love to help out, but with my work hrs, it is just not possible. I tried it one year, and man--I ended up so tired I missed Sunday morning worship--just trying to catch up on sleep!

Heh heh! Doowop was known for its nonsense words. Here is a song that a lot of people took seriously, but that was silly--it was all in fun--Barry Mann was really just having some fun with the nonsense words! All you have to do is listen the the spoken words at the end!

Back when I attended VBS, in the 50's, it always lasted 2 weeks. But I don't think any go that distance today. Here is one song we always did-and this is the melody we used--it is not the one that is more commonly used today, but that's ok--both melodies are good!

We use that tune as well. You should here my girls (Stacie and Kristin) sing it...pretty loud
