Of course it is an American tradition now. If it was good enough for us then it is good enough for our kids and the next generation. If anything America is less progressive and more wanting to hold onto the past. You can no longer accuse America of being modern and advanced, compared to other countries.

I just say we go back to our roots. I don't believe in God, but if the OP wants to be honest, then we as atheists have to be honest too that the country was better off when we had some sort of higher authority to guide us. Now either we can all come together and fix these problems, or we can watch more of our country fall into poverty, and we can watch our scores get lower and lower.... Or we can start teaching this God again.... I don't like the idea of Creation, but it's worked for us in the past, so why not try again? It's better than the alternative.

Sure, why not? A glorification of the past and its good old days remains glorification of the past good old days, though.

And wage slavery is nothing new either. In fact, sweat shops, labour conditions like Bangladesh etc are not unheard of in the US's past. It has really gotten better. Like so many things.

Are you going to provide anything to support your assertions? At all? Poverty existed before Darwin's book came along, and even after, it's fair to say the book wasn't immediately thrown into class curriculum. 'Teaching creation' didn't stop us from having the most bloody war in our history.

But it's still around. How can you point a finger at someone else when the same crime happens during your oen lifetime? A crime is a crime. If you stab the first person twice, but only stab the second person once, have things really gotten that much better?

And in regards to slaver in America in the old days, don't forget how many Christians lost their lives to free those slaves. So the same argument applies to that time in history. Things WERE getting better during those times. Remember this little line? "All men are created equal". Not all "white men", but all men. So of course, even though they had slaves(people all over the world did), they planned to release them. And besides, why is it that when someone mentions "the good ol days", everyone assumes they're talking about slavery? Msybe I'm talking about the Revolutionary War, when we got our own freedom from the British.

Sweden defines rape more broadly than most other countries and they make more concerted efforts to record and make their instances visible. Obviously, the wider your net is, the more fish you're going to catch. A simple Google search can reveal this.

Yes, actually. That's a 50% improvement. That's much better.

Besides, no one ever expects for crime or violence to completely disappear altogether.

All slaveowners had plans to release their slaves? Really? Are you familiar with the Civil War and the reasons behind it?

It wouldn't actually matter, because there were slaves in America back then, too. Even some of the Founding Fathers owned them.

Getting drunk once in a while is not the same as being drunk every day from dawn 'til dusk.

You weren't talking about the good old days at all. But somebody upthread was talking about golden time before evolution reared its ugly head. And I though it would be fair to put that record straight. And with slavery, rapant alcoholism, wage slavery, racism we are really only scatching the surface.

And maybe should also review what you know of the constitution. "All men are created equal" most certainly did not apply to blacks way back when.

I have no faith in man's ability to be able to fix his problems. That is what got me to be a Christian in the first place.
