The tannie thing is cool. This is so great learning about other cultures. You guys are all cool. ...hoping Phil will someday share some pictures from Africa with us.
) is originally from Cape Town (Sea Point)! I have been to South Africa 6 times. We drove once to Knysna & visited Oudtshoorn & the Cango Caves. I've been to Paarl & Stellenbosch & up to Saldanha Bay. We were in Jo'burg once but have yet to make it to Durban (although Wendy was there as a girl). You have a beautiful, beautiful country! I hope to see more of it!
Um, I'm an orthodox Jew, not a Christian.Still small voice, it looks like you know the sound of the saviours voice. It took me quite some time to learn how to hear His voice.
I've been to the town of Stellenbosch only once, on my very first visit to SA, back in January 1988, when Wendy & I announced our engagement (with ads in the Cape Times & Daily Argus). We drove around the campus & visited the local synagogue. We went to the Afrikaans language memorial in Paarl (or is it in Franchieok?) on that trip. We've been to the wine country (there's one kosher winery) a few times. There's a bunch of ex-pat South Africans in our neighborhood (see the pics: http://www.jr.co.il/ma/pic/ma012.htm); just last Saturday, we had a family over for lunch, the husband got his MD at the University of Stellenbosch (Wendy studied library science at UCT).If you have been to Stellenbosch, you need not go any place else. I grew up there and spend the first 20 years of my life there.
Yes, I have been to the Church of the Holy Sepulcre in the Old City (http://www.jerusalem.muni.il/jer_sys/picture/atarim/site_form_atar_eng.asp?site_id=52&pic_cat=4&icon_cat=6&york_cat=9) several times.Have you been to Calvary?
When are you coming? I volunteer to be your personal tour guide! (This goes for everybody!)I so want to visit your country and walk the roads Jesus has walked.
See http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-0403090221mar09,1,1986720.story by the Chicago Tribune's Jo'burg correspondent; I saw it on the web on Tuesday. It seems though the whole of SA has gone nuts since the academy arwards, except where I stay.

Wow Phil, what a mission you are on. We hear the reports of AIDS here but you can't get your brain around it. Such heartbreak. I know you are getting a great blessing from this. Keep strong. God Bless you!Philippe2 said:I am a missionary in Zululand, KZN. The mission started just for the zulus, but te AIDS and substance abuse work I does not only stop at the zulus. I do not know if you know the stats, but we hav about 500 000 AIDS orphans in our province alone. The organisation that I work for, Doctors For Life International, have tried to answer the need by looking after 408 children in 29 day care centres. We also run Home Based Care courses, where we teach even the illiterate to take care of the terminally ill. We have trained a couple of thousand volunteers. It is hardbreaking seeing people younger than myself to weak to wipe away a fly. Their parents have to clean them as if they were babies again.
Sorry I ran a away with the point. The mission is about 1 & a half hours drive from Durban. (It is one of the major cities in South Africa).
Phil
fp, I've had a horrible week this week at work and all I can do is pray that next week is better. Thanks for asking...I don't want to whine about this. There are people worse off in the world than I.fp said:dsdumpling...I hope you had a better day at work today.
to you all!
It is true that we are hard work with all the AIDS patients, but while they are lying on their beds they are so open for the Gospel. As soon as I can I will post some pictures to show you the reality. It is a great experience to see the change in a person when he excepts Christ.
You've got my prayers.Phil said:I thank the Lord that I can be a part of this work. Please keep our work in your prayers.![]()
