I was prescribed birth control for one year last august, well this august my prescription is up and DH and I are wanting to start trying to conceive...I took my last pill 2 weeks ago. Is there a waiting period before we try to conceive to let the medicine get out of my system? I heard your supposed to wait at least 2 months before trying after your off the pill...

that sounds about right, though I personally never got the chance to know, as I conceived on the pill. I think trying right off the pill increases your chances of misscarriage, but I am not positive on that one. IT would be best to wait a bit to give your body a chance to adjust to not having the extra hormones in your system.

My case is kind of abnormal, but because I have hormonal issues when I'm not on the pill, my doctor says that the first month off the pill could be my best chance to conceive because the pill keeps my hormones in normal ranges. I have PCOS, so what's true for me isn't necessarily true for someone without it. But for us, the plan is to take Clomid immediately after stopping the pill to encourage ovulation. No wait at all!

What I take from that is that the medical establishment doesn't see any particular risk there.

The risks are VERY low - and come from the days when the pill had much higher hormone content than they do now.
A very good friend of mine is a midwife and she said that there is no problem with TTC immediately after going off the pill, and what felinity said is true -you can be more fertile immediately after going off the pill, it's a very common treatment for infertility.

A lot of Drs like for women to wait after going off the pill in order to date the pregnancy better - but you can get an U/S that will date it close enough.

I was worrying because I was only on the pill for 1 month. But, I had my period a few weeks after I miscarried. So that told the Docs that my body was functioning normally on my own. They think I even ovulated before the pills had time to take effect. I was worried about going from being 5 months pregnant, to BC, to nothing. But apparently, according to the doc, I'll probably ovulate and be able to conceive asap. And with God's help I will.

And so will you. I've done a lot of research....mainly trying to comprehend my condition and what my next steps are. It doesn't matter if you're on the pill a month or 10 years. Most of the hormones of the pills leave your body within the first week, most ovulate quickly. Only a small percentage take more than 2-3 months to return to a normal cycle. A large percentage experience increased fertility. I hope that not only me, but you too are in this category. That would be fantastic.

Although, I am scared of overworking my hubby......poor guy......YEAH RIGHT.....LOL
