  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just a question about LOTR RPG's

I've occassionally dabbled in the art, but I'm wondering if there's such a beast as an RPG with more than one-line responses and a storyline and plot that stays true to the books and doesn't include half-wraiths? Not here so much but elsewhere I've seen titles like "Rivendell High" and "Romance in Rohan".

If I drop a word like, say, Nandor, Angband, Hithaeglir, or Khazad-Dum, will people like at me like I've grown a sixth head? If I mention Eregion that was Hollin and names like Annatar and Celebrimbor will I be asked what it is I'm talking about? Do I have to explain that Beorn wasn't a dunedain nor did he hunt other animals?

Mainly I ask because my experiences with most other boards has been less than enlightening.

Thanks.

Well, in my LOTR rpgs, there is a servant of the original bad guy, Melkor, who is a main character and actually holds intelligent conversations. And no, we will not look at you like you have a sixth head, because we talk like that! We are more intelligent than other boards, I think. lol

I knew 8 out of those words you mentioned, Bushido. Eh, I never studied too far into LOTR, more than the books go anyway, but I recall a little bit from when I scoured that Tolkien dictionary a few years back. I know enough to know who Melkor is, and what Angband was, and most people on here in the LOTR threads know more than I do. I swear, I must be the only one who doesnt know even a little elvish.

As for the half wraiths.... we do have one person who uses one, but she is not half wraith by blood. My understanding(vague understanding) of it is that she was stabbed by a morgul blade, but most of her humanity was restored when Sauron died. Now, we did take several liberties in that particular RP, although some were out of sheer forgetfulness. For example: We visisted Isengard to raid Saruman's old libraries and once we were inside, someone mentioned that we should have run into an ent or two... ya, we were too far ahead to go back and add an extra scene, so....

And you know like I do that the elves NEVER came to help at Helms Deep, right? Darn PJ....

As for staying true to the books, all of the LOTR rp's I have joined were either long before or after the books.(someone even started a "what if?" RP, the what if being what if Frodo was killed at Mount Doom? In that one, Sauron rules Middle Earth and everyone is a slave, except for me. I made an Easterling that everyone hates(maybe not HATES...))

Well, that was a severe case of running at the moth, and I apologize. Have a nice day,

Dave

I would doubt that there are more educated people here than I have seen. Some of the places I've been two the people ther had read over several times every piece of literature that Tolkien ever wrote. Unfortunately, by the time I got to those boards they had been swamred by those people that waned to make a setting in Rivendell that was otherwise a regular highschool. The word "insipid" came to mind when I read those.

As far as staying true to the books, I mean the whole landscape. History and everything. For instance, the heirs of Gondor should have rule over all the elven lands plus the lands of Gondor and Arnor, as per the Appendices. Any RP where Beleriand is mentioned should make note of the Teleri and more specifically the Sindar.

So, anyone planning a new one soon so that I can jump in? :)

I admit I like the movies way more than the books. Of course I was 11 when I read the books and it was a bit overwhelming at the time but oh well.
I am proud to say, though, that I knew alot of those names :)

As for new LOTR RPGs, not that I know of. There's a relatively new one, the 'what if' one Dave mentioned that's pretty cool. There are two others floating around over in Movies and Books too.

First, I am going to say you are all freaks for being proud of knowing about nano characters in LOTR. Then, I will say that I hate the makers of the movie for allowing you freaks to come out into the daylight. Next, I will say that Tolkein only wrote the books because Lewis was too boring a student (and anyone with four names is a freak too).

Rather than obbsess about LOTR, read some books by much better authors, (i.e. Sir Walter Scott, Frank Herbert, Steven Lawhead, Alexander Dumas)

Because, if Tolkien came back to life and saw a bunch of weirdos dressed like Strider and speaking fluent Elvish, rather than getting a hobby or actually fixing the problems in their social life rather than repressing it in the same books over and over, wouldn't his zombie go back in time and kill himself?

I could use a fellow "not-necessarily-bad-but-still-not-good" guy in Rise of the Orcs, you know, to keep my back and all ;)

Can I get a little background on what's going on? Timeframe, who you are, main protaganists, etc.?

Ahem... all humans who were occuapnts of Gondor and Rohan are slaves. Hirohako is definately a good man, but since he is an Easterling, people seem to overlook that.

Like Locket said, most characters are slaves, and everyone created a "master" for their character. All but one are orcs, the one exception is another Easterling. My character is Captain Sasamu Hirohako, an Easterling commander who is supporting the orcs in putting down the rebellion in the Shire.

Locket's chars: Tessa(gondorian slave), Makzat Glogbum(uruk general/man in charge)

Ellesar: Kalyn(gondorian slave), Makhug(orcish general and borther to MAkzat)

JesusFreak10537: Adian(Rohirrim(i think...) slave. oh yeah, he is the only male slave character, just for the record.)

Jesusfreck120: Trajo(halfling leader, he may have dropped out, as he isnt on much.)

Equal Minded: Fundin(dwarf, I think he has a squad of dwarves under his command)

Lessien: Makira(wraith)

My joke character: Dave, the WitchKing of Weathertop.(Nazgul, exists for Sauron's entertainment.)

I hope I didnt forget anyone...... Oh yes, I am pretty sure Steadfast7 has one, but I forgot her character's name.....sorry.

Everything is taking place at a camp outside the Shire until we put this stinkin rebellion down.

Well, he isnt Japanese, he is an Easterling. The name is, but see, I know NOTHING of Rhun's culture, except that it is supposedly what develops into Asia, so I sorta borrowed that. I know it was very unprofessional, and if you know anything about Rhun, please tell me. Cuz I dont.

His Auxilliary Battallion(donated troops to Sauron) have a camp outside the orcish one. However, Hirohako spends most RPG time in that orc camp.
