YES! I saw that too thanks for posting that. That certainly was not handled right at all.

There's a couple of troubling things about the case....

First off, the prosecutor's explanation for why the case was ultimately dropped. The whole "it's not a big deal to lie to the police and stage a hate crime for national attention" excuse is ridiculous. It's not murder...but if it were an actual hate crime, it would be treated as a big deal.

If it's not treated as seriously as the crime alleged, then you're just creating an incentive to lie to police.

Secondly, is the reaction from the crowd that's always complaining about police accountability. They suddenly don't seem to care about it when people are lying to police, staging hate crimes, and prosecutors dismiss the whole thing.

Police accountability and accountability in the justice system has to be something that happens all the time...not just when it's politically convenient. I get that it's embarrassing if you were fooled by Jussie Smollett, but unless you're serious about accountability when it's shown he lied....why should anyone care about accountability any other time people are whining about it?
