Apollo followed Galen to find that the fight had started. He had aquired a taste for dueling like this, because it was often how quarrels were settled with his warrior clan upbringing. He walked to the side where the box of swords were, and picked one up. "Yeah, this isn't right for me," he said as he put the sword back, "My bow is much better for these hands" At this, he looked back at Galen. He hadn't noticed before, but she was very beautiful, and he was surprised. But he walked back over to her and watched the rest of the fight from that position.

Galen turned to Apollo, "I would like to learn both. You cannot always defend yourself from far off. What would you do if someone was right up close to you? That is one of the reasons why I always carry a dagger with me. Though I don't have much skill." She turned back towards the fight. Watching her brother, she knew how much her life was indebted to him on numerous accounts. This would be good for him to finally learn how to protect her and himself.

"Ah, but if you are good enough, there will be no need to worry about close-range defense. The leaders here look down upon people stepping out of class. I was shunned for using part of my warrior upbringing on my first mission." said Apollo. But he quickly added, "But I suppose learning to fight at this distance wouldn't be too bad." Apollo screamed at himself in his head, "Why do you care so much? You can't afford to fall in love!...but, then again...bah! This is too much...just focus on the fight..." And he did just that: He focused on the fight once more.

"Even if you're the best archer on the planet you can't possibly defend yourself only with your bow. Someone can still slip past and get up close." Galen replied. "I've seen it happen." She murmured. She noticed he was trying to pay attention to the fight and looked uneasy. "Did I show that I like him? No! I couldn't have! But maybe..." Galen quickly caught herself and turned back towards the fight. "So, why did you join? Unless it's personal..."

"Well...I imagine it's a little personal, but...I'll tell you. When I was a child, I lived happily in a quaint little village. But, one day, the village was attacked, and my house was the only one destroyed. My parents died with the flames. After that, I wandered around the country till a group of warriors took me in as one of their own. Last year, though, they told me I needed to leave, so I did, and I wandered till I got here." Apollo said, with as bit of pain in his voice. "So how about you? Why are you and your brother here?"

 

[AmazonPanther]

"Umm... well mostly the same reason. Our parents were killed when we were out playing one day. I was only 5 years old. Lamar was 8. We were able to work for a wealthy earl who provided for us. But we left to find a better place. We... wandered around for a while and eventually came here." Galen looked down at the memories. It pained her to talk about it. She did leave out most of the more horrible details of their adventures.

 

[Narmegil]

Tarshk smiled as his opponent forced his stick to his right, putting up some resistance, he then let his stick flow with the push, giving it extra power as he swung it up and over, on the other swordsmen's right side, sidestepping with the blow so his stick could parry a slash or lunge and still continue it's path.

((Do you actually swordfight? I'm doing this pretty blindly.))

Lamar was off balanced and scrambled to block the next blow. He decided to dodge it instead and moved to the left cutting inwards with his sword, knowing it could be blocked easily. Straight forward fights were not his forte. He always had to use cunning and trickery to defend himself in the past because he had never been trained in any way. He and Galen had taught themselves everything they knew about any form of fighting. They even had to teach themselves what many would consider common knowledge about the world... and people. Like 'don't trust anyone' they learned the hard way.

((I've got no idea how it's suppose to work. i've never seen or done anything like this. But I can cut in at anytime and ask you to stop, if you want me to.))

Apollo said to Galen, "Your brother isn't much of a swordfighter, is he? What did he sign up to be?"

 

[AmazonPanther]

((That's fine I'll manage. I'll just go read a million books with detailed sword fights in them. Or at least try to.))

"A pickpocket. You have to understand we were never taught anything. We had to learn everything on our own. So he is actually doing pretty well considering." Galen replied. "He has learned a couple things. The reason he is not attacking is because he waits for the perfect moment and then takes them down in one blow. I think he is a born assassin." She paused. "Though he's never tested that." She quickly added, not sure what Apollo would think if she had told him Lamar had tested it. In reality, you might say he had. But to Galen, it wasn't his fault.

"Well, that's definatly not good. I assume you know how to read and write, being that you read the sign and wrote your information on the form. But do you know how to cook or tie good knots? Or, how about string a bow? I mean I could teach you if you wanted..." Apollo stopped. He was rambling. He lowered his head and looked back towards the two fighters.

Galen snickered at the memories of learning how to do some of the things that Apollo was listing off. "I do know how to cook although it took me a while to learn. I don't really know how to tie every knot but there are some knots I know. Like I said nobody taught us, we learned by ourselves. We didn’t need anyone to teach us. Except reading and writing. Lamar learned because he was a messenger for the earl and then he taught me. That is the way we did things, if we learned something, we taught the other person how to do it.” Galen sighed and hugged her arm. “I have never had to string a bow. Could you teach me?”

Apollo listened intently. he wondered about how the two actually could have grown up with the hardships he heard. "Sure, but I think you want to watch the...uhh...so-called fight. No one has moved for a while. Ah, well..." Apollo sighed. "Just tell me when, because it could prove very useful."

((Ok. I finally uploaded the picture I drew of them. It's not so good but then you can get an idea of what they look like. Lamar and Galen))

"Alright." Galen answered Apollo and turned back towards the fight. Apollo was right though, Lamar wasn't doing very well.

((Someone in another RPG I'm doing hasn't posted in about 2 weeks or something like that. So yeah, I don't think Narmegil's that bad at replying.))

((I'm sorry, Kimdir, my mom blocked me from the computer for a day, then the southern network shut down for a bit Back up now though. Yes I actually do swordfight with wood and PVC pipe swords, I can even beat my dad sometimes. Lets just say that my post and a few posts after it happen while you guys are talking ))
Tarshk parried the blow, and locked hilts, ramming the blades together and twisting to his crosshilt was under Lamars and pushing upward and twisting slightly, trying to disarm Tarshk's opponent.
