Giving a $20 Timex to a pastor in a Third World country can be argued as being extravagant....that money can be sold to feed the poor. Wasn't that also Judas' argument?

Judas' argument was disingenuous. "He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it." (John 12:6).

This actually brings up an interesting and related point. The Bible calls Judas a thief for using funds raised for the poor on himself.

It's similar to televangelists who raise money on the pretext of spreading the Gospel and feeding the poor but who help themselves to those funds in order to purchase luxuries.

So I suppose that next you are going to say that these were hypothetical and not questions directed at cutting his heart/emotions/whatever down into itty bitty pieces...but rather a "correction' or 'rebuke' or something stupid like that. But, for the record, I am withholding judgment until the facts are in. I hope I am talking about the wisdom of a $23,000 whatever, not judging the faith of Joyce Meyer (or anyone else).

So what about the giver of the camode? Lets be real stinky about the gift, and say no thanks I refuse your gift, and hurt the giver of it feelings. Its not always about us. There is the other side of the coin about giving, and someone desiring to give a gift. Lets cut them off quickly. It certainly couldn't be scriptural about someone desiring to give anything, right?
Wheather Joyce needed it or not doesn't matter, she more than likely didn't. But I think she took the higher road concerning the giver.

I would do it and I would gently explain how a $23,000 commode is a bit extravagant and how it could, in fact, be a damaging gift if such information would get in the wrong hands (which it obviously has done). And I would suggest that he give the $23,000 to some who really could use it.

And if the giver's heart is really in the right place he/she would not be offended by that.

The only reason I can think of why someone would be offended in that scenario is if the giver is only seeking prominance, recognition and favoritism. Like buying indulgences...

Mellie don't you know hon that it is much more fun to place judgement without the proof. This garbage was put out there and since the media said it it must be true.

BTW folks I have witnessed someone died and because they had no family left all to the church. How do you know that that is not what happened here?
