No. I used to be more charismatic back in my Protestant days.

I never heard it in a Catholic setting before. I thought it was only Pentecostals and denominations like that.

There are Catholics who've been baptized in the Holy Spirit, and yes, they do speak in tongues ... just like in the Protestant denominations. The same Holy Spirit is active and living and powerful across denominational lines!

But did you know ... there use to be an active Charismatic Catholic Renewal forum here on CF?

The CCR forum has been closed for some time; looks like most of those folks have long been gone. But there are still 'read only' threads there. You've shared you have no interest in tongues, but what you'll find in the CCR forum are charismatic Catholics discussing their beliefs from a charismatic point of view. It might be interesting for you to read their 'take' on things, since I don't think there are presently any charismatic Catholics here in this forum (except for maybe one).

I became Catholic right before Pope JPII died.

I have not been exposed to it enough to know. I know CCR is approved of by popes who say there is room for it within the Church. The services are usually held outside of the Mass. I understand there is much more order to it than what you see in charismatic Protestant churches.

I knew most people here wouldn’t be. What are your reasons? Because her book is, so far, helpful to me.

I've listened to Joyce Meyers programs on and off thru the years.
And my husband and I went to go hear her publicly speak, about a decade ago. It was a good experience.
I like Joyce, but I do consider her to be more of a Christian 'self-help' kind of teacher.
I don't listen to her for doctrinal instruction, etc.

Today I am listening to an old Mother Angelica Live program on YouTube. Now, imo, if you want to see a working example of a Catholic woman moving in the Holy Spirit charismatic gifts, it is Mother Angelica!

Though Mother Angelica apparently did not publicly identify with the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement, there are stories out there that say she did pray in tongues. I didn't spend a long time searching, but did easily find this one (below). I don't know if all said in it is true, but repeatedly I've read that she did pray in tongues. (Whether she continued to do so or not, I do not know.) ..........

Mother Angelica of EWTN in one of her books talks about the charismatic experience she and her sisters had in the early years of the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament. A visiting priest arrived and asked her if she wanted to “receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”; she responded yes, and he laid his hands on her head. He departed and she dismissed it, but a few days after he left, she suddenly fell to the floor (this is known as “slaying” by the Holy Spirit) and began to speak in tongues, experiencing an extreme euphoria. By the laying on of hands, she shared this experience with all her sisters and the entire convent was full of joy. Later, she decided that this abundant joy was not conducive to the work she’d committed to perform and abandoned it.

Tongues

The word has multiple meanings—in anatomy, geophysics—as well as figurative and literal meanings in literature. One meaning is speech—a “golden tongue,” a “diabolical tongue.” And it means language identity, as in the Greek tongue, the English tongue. And in The Acts of the Apostles: Tongues as...

Tongues is not the only evidence of the Holy Spirit working in a person's life, nor do I believe it is a 'requirement'. There are the other charismatic spiritual gifts like:

Those that impart the power to know: Word wisdom, Word of knowledge, Discernment of spirits

Those that impart the power to act supernaturally: Faith, Miracles, Healings

Those that impart the power to speak supernaturally: Prophecy, Tongues, Interpretation of tongues

Those that aid one's own ministry: Pastor-Teacher, Evangelism, Exhortation, Teaching

Those that give help to the ministry of others: Showing mercy, Administration, Giving, Helps, Intercession

Having watched, listened to, and read Mother Angelica for years, I believe she most likely moved in most all, if not all, of the above ^ spiritual gifts.

There were/are Catholic charismatic groups, but they’re relatively small.

I’ve never heard it, but then, I never heard about it in Catholicism until maybe 18 years or so ago.

Yes. And, not exactly.

There is the Pentecostal Holiness Church, which is a denomination.

But then there is also 'Pentecostalism', which is a movement encompassing various denominations and independent churches that share a focus on the experience of the Holy Spirit, often including practices like speaking in tongues and divine healing.

The words 'charismatic' and 'Pentecostal' often get used interchangeably to describe the same/similar experiences. Which word is used seems to be a matter of preference. (If there are other reasons for the choice of word used, I admit I don't know what they are.)

Examples:
In the Catholic Church, the word 'charismatic' is used, rather than Pentecostal.
In the Assembly of God church, the word 'Pentecostal' is used, rather than charismatic.
And on and on it goes ...

In churches or groups where they believe in the cessation of the spiritual gifts, you won't find charismatics/Pentecostals.
Cessationists believe that the spiritual gifts ended with the Apostles.
Continuists believe the spiritual gifts continue, and are valid and operative still today.

The Catholic Church is not cessationist.
