Just remember just because people make sense doesn't mean there are always biblical. Much of the Mormon doctrine and explanations for things make sense but doesn;t mean they are biblical.

While Meyer’s preaching may be folksy and down-to-earth, it isn’t always biblical.

The problem is Joyce Myer's teachings are a mix of nice sounding opinions presented as biblical truths. When people add to the word as being the word we are on dangerous ground, that is how new christian religions get started. Can you determine what she is saying is always biblical?

One writer sums it up "as trying to eat rat poison and spitting out the arsenic from it, in an attempt to nourish on the cornmeal."

Here are just a few of some of her viewpoints that I have been able to research.

Jesus went to Hell
For example in her Book "What Should You Believe" on page 41 she writes, "During that time, He entered hell, where you and I deserved to go (legally) because of our sin. . ."Jesus paid for our sins on the cross and went to hell in our place." On page 42 she writes "His spirit went to hell because that is where we deserved to go".

Interesting enough this viewpoint isn't her own creation, it comes from Ken Copeland and the Word-Faith Movement

She is not a sinner
On her tape, “What Happened from the Cross to The Throne", she says:
“I’m going to tell you something folks, I didn’t stop sinning until I finally got it through my thick head I wasn’t a sinner anymore. And the religious world thinks that’s heresy and they want to hang you for it. But the Bible says that I’m righteous and I can’t be righteous and be a sinner at the same time."

Words are power
Joyce reduces Jesus' name to a magic word and also his blood. For example in her book "The Name, The Word, The Blood" she writes, "words are containers for power”
“My husband and I stay in various hotels because of our travels in ministry. Quite frequently when unpacking and settling into a hotel room I will ‘plead’ the blood or ‘put’ the blood on the room, to cleanse or remove any wrong spirits that may be there from other guests. I do this by praying, by speaking the blood in my prayer"

This is how all the psuedo-christian faiths got started, that is by a celebrity preacher who added and added to the original to the point they create an entirely new faith with it's own teachings. Some examples are:
Christadelphianism
Christian Science
Intern. Church of Christ
Jehovah's Witnesses
Mormonism
New Age Movement
Oneness Pentecostal
Seventh Day Adventism
Shepherd's Chapel
Universalism

Saying Joyce Meyer has practical teachings is on the same level as saying she’s a nice person. It doesn’t matter. If you have a nice Jehovah’s Witness or nice New Ager, the value of their message is not established on a congenial disposition but on their core doctrinal beliefs. False prophets, though who are nice or practical, are still deadly. So what if one is a nice heretic? So what if one is a practical false teacher? We benefit nothing from a nice and practical heretic.

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. - 2 TIM 4:3

I do not by her books. Maybe I am wrong but a "flag" goes up when I see expensive clothing and jewelry. I read commentaries for other view points, but the Bible is the best book of instruction and there is no better teacher than God, Himself. I stay with the real teacher....

I just don't seem that enlightened by her teachings all of the time. Yes, she gets to that part in us that we can relate to but for me and my understanding we all have that part in our life being that we make mistakes etc. and that we learn from them. I'm not trying to be critical only I just don't get out of it all that she puts into it. I get much more from prayer and reading scripture. As far as her appearence, it makes me wonder how much of the donations are part of a "large" paycheck.... I feel to same about many others..

Nice to meet you :)

JESUS DID GO TO HELL:
"For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." Mat. 12:40

"I am he that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death". (Rev 1:18 KJV)
Acts 2:31 quotes David from Psalm 16:10 saying “He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that His soul was not left in HELL, neither His flesh did see corruption.”

YES, I ALSO PLEAD THE BLOOD OF JESUS OVER MY HOUSEHOLD AND FAMILY. DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT THERE IS POWER IN THE BLOOD?

As a new Christian, Joyce's programs and books taught me how to use Christianity in my real life. I can follow up on her references and any doctrinal issues myself. What she does is teaches us how to live lives which have emerged from damaged pasts. And many women need the no-nonsense get over it kind of talk! Overall, I like her!

im not going to get into a debate.
but i will say that i very strongly do beleive that yes Jesus did go to hell, no we should not call ourselves sinners when we are dead to sin, and that words are truely powerful when the bible says declare a thing and it shall be established. we are made in the image and likeness of God, and God made everything with words and breath, and to an extent we naturally function the same way as our father who begot us, God.

Gods grace,
how are you today? ...im great.
i love you in the Lord.

id just like to remind you of this, that God himself sent the apostles to go and teach, our entire bible is conformed of nothing but books that men of God wrote to teach other men, if we could believe that we dont need godly teachers, wed have no bible, and probly no early churches would have ever existed and the journeys of paul, steven etc, would have never happened you would probly in hell or certainly on your way to hell today.

you can do this by yourself if you want and use your whole lifetime learning what you can learn from a man or woman of God in a few hours.
yes the annointing that abides in you, teaches you all things.
but this by no means, means that you dont need teachers, becuase they were sanctioned and endorsed by God.
at times the bible calls them SHEPERDS over people.

we need teachers so we can grow up effectively and quickly, becuase its possible to be destroyed in your state of weakness before you ever find out for yourself.

sorry i didnt mean for that to go that long.

oh and about the jewelry,
i understand what your saying but you have to be careful, becuase she didnt get to where she is overnight, shes probly already been through the place where she had no jewelry or nice clothes to wear becuase she sacrificed it for God and becuase God has given it all back isnt wrong.
some people mock and criticize well off and nice looking preachers, but they dont understand the years of poverty they went through to get there.

do you realise that she has been in the ministry for many many years, and she by no means started preaching in stadiums, but rather in little groups that gave nothing back? shes put in the years... and i think shes worthy of it all.
if she just started preaching last year and jumped straight into the world wide ministry, then id probly say yeah "better watch out for pride" but i know she didnt. when you begin with nothing at all and you work it for years and years and years untill its something, theres no room for pride left, becuase you know your nothing without God.

Please don't misunderstand me...
I did not say all teachers put up a red flag. Although I did say many. It still does not mean all. Yes, we do need teachers, the Shepards, to help teach us to understand what GOD wants for our life here. Not all teachers do this. They were taught also, am I right???? By whom?????

I watch 2 in particular on TV that give me more understanding than others. I will not say who they are, unless I am asked.

I am a very simple life person and I believe that I do not need the riches of the "physical world" to show anyone that I believe in JESUS and HIS teachings. It is my prayer that it radiates from me in conversation. I can't even truly find the words to describe it.

I do have to ask this question though. I can not get it out of my mind. If JESUS was in the world right now preaching the Good News - The Bible, what do you think he would be wearing for all to see. Do you think he would be wearing fine jewlery and clothing for all to see his rewards, from his FATHER, for his hard work? Or, do you believe he would be more interested in seeking and saving the lost. I have to say the latter one.

If I have offended anyone, I do apoligize. It was not my intent in the beginning, to do so. But, as I now think of what I just posted, I believe that GOD has a point to make on HIS orginal plan for HIS teachers. I will say no more.

Janice

Lee, you can PM me, I think, if needed.

I honestly think her (or anyone else) wearing makeup and jewlery is absolutely fine. What I do think is wrong is dwelling on such things when someone is giving so much of themselves for God. Why can't Christians wear jewlery or makeup??? I want people to see my jewlery and know that God has made me prosper. I want people to see me wearing makeup and think, wow, Christians don't have to be drab and poverty stricken. Really, I don't want to debate about makeup and jewlery being right or wrong though. I think there are much more important issues. It's sad that Joyce Meyer is teaching profound biblical truths and people refuse to watch her because of her appearance. Give her a try!
