How we see ourselves determines results we see.

And this was understood even by the Hebrews, including Joshua (descended from the line of Ephraim, son of Joseph and his Egyptian wife Asenath in Genesis 41:45)...and it was not lost on the people how significant it was Joshua had a different spirit going into the land (Numbers 13:8/Numbers 14 and Joshua 16:1-10) when he knew who he was....and there are many Jewish rabbis/commentators pointing out it was a big deal for Joseph to be favored by God to save the world....and his tribe tied to Egypt.

But when folks say "Well God cursed Ham via Noah!!!" and note that as justification for mistreatment, I say "Noah gave a curse on one man's line...and God reversed it when seeing historically the folks from Ham's line who served Him and an entire culture did phenomenal exploits." Ultimately, who you let speak to/over you will impact what you speak to others - and if it is not God's Words over your life, then why would you receive them?

And for me, seeing the mixed heritage Joshua had (no different than someone Jewish with ancestry to other cultures/tribes outside of Israel), I have to say that we need to consider this.

Some take into consideration that Josephs' wife was not Egyptian as in from Ham, Mizraim..

There was a time period where there were others ( Hyksos) presiding over Egypt called the Shepherd Kings that some believe were from Shem's line and that Joseph served under that Pharaoh.

It would explain the passage where it says there arose a new King who 'knew not' Joseph and that's when they went into slavery.

Joseph's rise to power as pharaoh's second-in-command would have been far more likely under a Hyksos king. Joseph was related ethnically to the Semitic Hyksos rulers, while the native Egyptians (from Mizraim's line) regarded Semites with contempt.

The interplay of the changing dynasty was interesting. Yes, it appears that Joseph came to be second in rule under a Hyksos pharaoh, however at the same time the capital of the kingdom was in southern Egypt toward the headwaters of the Nile, cities like Thebes and Memphis.

Joseph settled his family in Goshen, at the Nile delta. We tend to look at that as Joseph choosing the richest land for his people. That's our modern thought.

But in the political strategy of the day, Joseph actually settled his family as far away from the eyes of the pharaoh as possible.

But before that, Joseph had collected nearly all the land of Egypt under the pharaoh, and it was Joseph who kept the pharaoh's books. So there was no official way for the pharaoh to know what was going on up in Goshen--or how the Israelites were growing in numbers.

As such administrative affairs go, those administrators who followed Joseph probably stayed down in southern Egypt, going along with Joseph's books, and never traveling to Goshen to do their own audit. As famous as Joseph was--why change his books?

Until there was a change of dynasty to a line of Cushite pharaohs.

And regarding Josephs wife, Asenath, the Rabbi say that she was the daughter of Josephs sister, Dinah who was raped. Dinah somehow sent her to Egypt as she knew they had food in hopes they would take care of her. Poti-phera found her and he and his wife raised her then gave her to Joseph for a wife.

I've heard it said that the seventeenth dynasty was a weak one and not all in control of the land of Egypt and that the Delta area was inhabited by Asiatics.
This could have happened in Abrahams time as he was seen going down there a few times.

This is also an interesting read The Story of Asenath.
