I saw this play in a musical version in my sophmore year in Theater class. It was actually really good. Most of the kids in my class did not really care for it because they were not religious, but I enjoyed it.

I think it's a good way to witness to actors and actresses about God, and even to the younger ones about him. This play might just spark the interests of younger children.

I think it was the music and singing that really got me into it. (Well duh, it was a musical version I was seeing.. ) :)

Both Mary and Jesus sing, "I don't know how to love him/her." It can be kind of hard to tell exactly how it is meant when they are singing it though. I think there's a higher meaning to it than being in love like a relationship. I know that I am always attracted to people with a strong faith - but it does not mean I would be in love with them. I, however, admire them and love being around them. Somtimes this can give guys the wrong idea that I have a crush on them. So, I relate to that.

I think if you really look hard at the lyrics of "I don't know how to love him", you'll realize this isn't a "Last Temptation of Christ" Jesus-Mary Magdalen love scene. Consider that she says, "I've had so many men before. In very many ways, he's just one more." This is her commenting that she has been in sexual relationships with other men, and she is trying to rationalize her feelings by saysing to herself, "he's just like any other man, why should I be afraid, why should this be any different?" But Mary makes it clear that this is different. She feels different. His love for her has changed her. She feels differently about herself, because he treats her differently than other men. They all wanted her for just her body or a night's pleasure, but Jesus isn't interested in that. He treats her as a human being with feelings and this love (not sexual love) that he shows her is so much nicer than what she is used to, that she longs for a relationship with a man who treats her so well.

The idea that Jesus loved other people--men and women--is not anathema to the Bible. But one should really consider the words and their meanings in this show and not jump to conclusions that it is an immoral portrayal.

I've never seen Jesus Christ Superstar, or even heard the soundtrack. I did see Joseph at the Papermill Playhouse and it was GREAT! I have the soundtrack and have the whole thing memorized. I wish I could sing, because I would love to be the announcer in it. The shower has heard my pathetic attempts at hitting those notes a number of times!!

According to donny.com, he also has a new album out. I downloaded a couple of samples from iTunes, and they were great -- I spent my weekend dancing to "In It for Love" around the house. I just reminded me of how much I loved him in Technicolor Dreamcoat...

I need to see the DVD version with Donny, just to have the visual. :)

I have the Donny Osmund version on video, and it is hilarious, cracks me up every time and I know the text to the song by hart, sometimes me, my dad and my younger brother will chant a random song from it to the annoyance of my mom :D (concidering none of us can really sing and it sound awful ;)
