Joseph and the amazing... Is a very effective way to share the biblical story. I do not see anything of offense in the play. Now, Jesus Christ Superstar- eventhough I love that play's music to death- alot of it I do not agree with the way it's handled. I think the biblical rock operas are cool- they aren't true to the text 100%- but, it gives theatergoers a chance to see the scripture come alive.

Well, the main problem I have with it. It eludes to a relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. It may not come right out with it... but its in there.

Another problem I have with it (as I do with Godspell) is that it doesn't show the ressurection. Without the ressurection, Jesus' Crucifixtion is nothing but a death. Which eludes to the fact, that Jesus Christ-was just a man.

The Other problem I have with it is that the way Jesus talks (or sings) during the film. Like to the Lepers, "Heal yourselves!". That to me doesn't represent my Lord at all.

But I love JCS's music- and it really is one of my favorite musicals. And none of these things are really said-but they give you hints enough that they are intended.

I saw it at my best friend's school last year. (He was Pharoah! :D I laughed so hard I cried. XD)

Anywho, what do you think about it? Is it sort of a disgrace to the Bible or a creative way to get the message across?
I think it is just another creative way to tell a Biblical story. There are tons of those and I tend to like them. I think my least favorite is Godspell, but I still like it. I've always been a fan of Jesus Christ Superstar but of course, to understand it, you have to understand that it's being told from Judas's point of view.

i Think one of the reasons that the resserection isnt shown is that by that point Judas is dead... even tho he comes back to life to mock Jesus...

about the relationship between Mary and Jesus... i think thats symbolic of the Love Jesus has for everyone.

Does Jesus sing that??? hmm cant remember that bit. :)

Our Senior class performed the play last spring. I think they did better than anyone I've seen. The drama teacher at our school also took us to see it at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta last month. So, does anyone else find the color song fun but addicting? Red, Yellow, Green, Brown, Scarlett, Black, Ochre, Peach, Ruby, Olive, Violet, Faun, Lilac, Gold, Chocolate, Mauve, Cream, Crimson, Silver, Rose, Azure, Lemon, Russett, Grey, Purple, White, Pink, Orange, BLUE!!! Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Both Mary and Jesus sing, "I don't know how to love him/her." It can be kind of hard to tell exactly how it is meant when they are singing it though. I think there's a higher meaning to it than being in love like a relationship. I know that I am always attracted to people with a strong faith - but it does not mean I would be in love with them. I, however, admire them and love being around them. Somtimes this can give guys the wrong idea that I have a crush on them. So, I relate to that.
