It has come to my attention that some people here are unaware of the false, heretical and apostate nonsense promulgated by US bishop John Spong.

John Spong has regrettably been molly-coddled by some 'fashionable' Australian churches during his 'tours' across the country - these churches seem more interested in PC and the hysterical rantings of minority groups rather than faithfully proclaiming the Gospel of our Lord.

Spong's main views are below:
* He does not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and has promoted this idea in books and seminars.
* He denies the Virigin birth.
* In addition to denying the resurrection, the virgin birth and the atoning death of Jesus, Spong affirms radical feminism, the ordination of homosexuals and homosexual marriage, and all 'loving' pre- and post-marital sex acts [better known as fornication].
* In his book "Why Christianity Must Change or Die", he calls for a "New Reformation" that includes the rejection of all fundamentals of the Christian faith. Even a cursory reading of his book is enough to inform any Bible-believing reader that Spong is a Christ-rejecting heretic who completely rejects the scientific and historical accuracy of the Bible.
*On a television interview, Spong said the idea of Jesus as Redeemer "has got to go." [Maybe Jesus was just a good man???] Spong rejects the Apostle's Creed and Nicene Creed. Spong believes that science has proven the Bible to be both untrue and inaccurate.

In a nutshell, if you want to know why John Spong is wrong then just name any orthodox Christian doctrine - whatever it is Spong will reject it!

I believe heretics like Spong do more damage than atheists.

Spong is a disgrace. If he had any ethics we would have thrown away his dog-collar, title and pension (yeah right).

Anyone else in a position of authority in the Christian church who deny the deity of Christ and embrace Universalist Unitarianism should have the courage of their convictions and leave their positions immediately.

Well said Templar, Spong is sadly little more than a gutless wonder who as a man of the cloth (supposedly) has the audacity to speak so heretically against the very church he professes to be a minister of and yet has so little courage to stand alone he hides behind the church he is open and wrongly criticising! May God bring his message down, may every word fall on deaf ears!

He was not allowed to preach in our diocese when he came to Australia.

umm - what gives you the idea that a lot of the anglican church in australia is conservative - if only it were true. The fact of the matter is that many conservative clergy are not welcome to be employed in many diocese across australia.
