  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

you do realize that it is a democratic congress right? you do realize presidents don't make legislation. if obama is elected bills won't even be discussed in the open (except non-binding censures against republicans). they will crafted in the back room like bush/mccain/kennedy did with immigration amnesty. or like how pelosi is doing now. do you really think a dem congress will override obama? if you do you are very naive.

the reason you don't see that is because obama voted 'present' at all the important votes. nothing like hiding your true feelings about controversial issues until you get elected. you also must have missed the fact he was determined to be the most liberal senator in congress.

According to sources I've looked at Obama has voted "present" 130 times out of 4,000 votes, which is not unusual.

What are you talking about?

One could say sources. I can't respond w/o sources.

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/01/24/fact_check_obamas_present_votes/

Fact Check: Obama's 'present' votes
THE FACTS: Obama acknowledges that over nearly eight years in the Illinois Senate, he voted "present" 129 times. That was out of roughly 4,000 votes he cast, so those "presents" amounted to about one of every 31 votes in his legislative career.
Illinois legislators often vote "present" and for a wide variety of reasons. Sometimes blocs of lawmakers do it as a protest in some dispute over rules and procedures. Obama was often joined in his "present" votes by 10 or 20 other senators.

McCain is far too corrupt to be President. His entire campaign is run by lobbyists, and his entire platform appears to be half written by them, half borrowed piecemeal from the failed Bush policies...

most recently, we learn that one of his major economic advisors was a lobbyist against homeowners during the housing crisis... perhaps that's why he doesn't like to talk about the housing crisis that much- he doesn't know much about the economy to begin with, and his policies are about helping the mortgage companies make a profit instead of helping Americans

cute, except that's not always the case, such as when predatory lending practices lead to people losing their homes, and McCain is bought and paid for helping the interests of these companies AGAINST the interests of Americans who are losing their homes or their equity in those homes

I don't understand this. People take out loans on homes they cannot afford and the loan company is predatory? As someone in debt because I didn't read the fine print I don't blame the credit card companies, I blame myself. What happened to taking responsibility for your own actions and debts? We almost bought a house last year and if we couldn't pay the mortgage because we were approved on something we couldn't afford or an ARM that goes up eventually it would be our fault if we lost our home not the bank. Banks employ Americans too you know. ;)

keep up that argument- AMERICANS, THE MORTGAGE CRISIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT

that'll work out well for McCain... he already is out of touch enough, and now he's going to be telling people who lost their homes that they should have been better versed on contract law and the complexities of mortgage agreements...

so when obama's associates are under scrutiny it's labeled a slime. Is it still a slime when the lefties do this? Can we still call it a Rovian strategy or maybe swiftboating??? :p

This post sounds very much like appeal to ridicule. Just because you ridicule the point that people created this problem by buying homes they couldn't afford and living beyond their means, doesn't mean it's not true.

Reasons why I won't vote for McCain:

  • I don't trust him to end torture of prisoners of war.
  • He won't get us universal health care.
  • He is anti-gay rights.
  • He is anti-abortion.
  • I don't see that he has a good plan to reduce gas prices.
These are some of the reasons why I will not be voting for McCain this year.

Brilliant!

>>Don't you mean free health insurance?<<

Free health care sounds great. Where do I get it? Will you pay for mine?

Separation of church and State.

Americans have had it too easy over the years. By 2012 the gas in America will cost ~12USD/gallon. Once certain areas are exploited, gas will drop, but you'll see a sharp gain again as China and India become more and more developed.

Weren't we supposed to run out of oil back in the '80's or '90's right after the start of the new ice age? ^_^
