Joe Six-Pack American?

Am I the only one who finds this description "Joe Six-Pack American" to be patronizing and offensive? I was raised in a working class neighborhood by "salt of the earth" type people and neither my parents, nor most of the hard-working Americans I have ever known were or are drunks who regularly chug a six-pack of beer over the course of watching a ballgame. I was taught that this is something that only worthless lazy slobs do. This is what Republican political discourse has descended to-- the "real" American Joe Six-Pack versus the "Liberal Elitists". Elitists like Obama, a Black man who "doesn't know his place", and dared to better himself by getting a good education instead of hanging around chugging beer.

Sarah Palin ain't no Joe Six Pack.

When she was a beauty queen she may have had six pack abs....don't know, don't care.

But six-packs ain't biblical. And here's the official position of her church.

For two reasons we urge all believers to avoid the Satanic tool of alcohol which destroys lives, damns souls, and blights society: (1) A studied review of the Scriptures affirms a stern warning against intoxicating drink and a call to separation from this evil for the purpose of better service to God and mankind; and (2) Current social abuses and the public outrage over the high cost of alcohol in terms of human misery, death, and destruction of property cry out with urgency for the church of Jesus Christ to oppose firmly any use whatsoever of a beverage which so insidiously afflicts and binds the bodies and minds of men and women.

I'm also one of those who wants "the best and brightest" in the White House. Saying someone can be brought up to speed regardless of their background, education, etc. is basically the same as saying we can pull anyone off the street and, with a little effort, they can be effective in office. No way. I understand the appeal of "regular joe", but I consider myself a little more intelligent that "regular joe" and I don't even want ME in the White House.

It is bizarre that you would see a man's concern for his own long term health through the prism of partisan politics.

That is rather sad.

You also seem to be completely unaware of the large number of doctors who actually smoke regardless of the health risks, so his wife's position in a hospital is rather beside the point.

Is it possible that many people here are mis-understanding the whole "Joe Six-Pack" reference? I don't know exactly what was meant by it, by the person who initially said it.

But when I've heard that phrase, I got the picture of your regular guy who has a six-pack of beer in the refrigerator, as opposed to your blue-blood snoot who chooses which bottle of Chardonnay to bring up out of the wine cellar.

I guess I didn't think of it as being derogatory - suggesting the guy always sits down a chugs a six-pack.

Maybe I'm missing something.

I suppose it is conceivable that there must be a few people in the US denser than her, and some of them may even be left wing, but they aren't running for Vice President

no one needs to provide the proof. if you want to lie about your background, who cares? it's the internet. i told you i dropped out of harvard. if i was lying i certainly would have graduated with honors, but i didn't. i left. no one cares, though, ultimately. none of this helps us make our cases on here. we either are persuasive and provide good evidence, or we don't. the next time you call someone out for lying about personal history i will report you. you claim this with no evidence to back up your position, just anger and a vacant intellectual argument. grow up and get in the game.
