“Oh, I think they’re [critics] just not used to someone coming in from the outside saying you know what? It’s time that a normal Joe Six-Pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency, and I think that that’s kind of taken some people off guard, and they’re out of sorts, and they’re ticked off about it,” she said.

When did Joe Six-Pack American deserve to be in the Vice Presidency? Isn't that the point of the Presidency, that the President should be considerably above average?

Jon Stewart said it best...

“Not only do I want an elite president,” he said this week, “I want someone who is embarrassingly superior to me.”

A careful reading of the comments suggest that Palin was not claiming to be Joe Six-Pack American but claiing to represent Joe Six-Pack American. Last I checked, Joe Six-Pack American has a right to be represented

Would these same people want average pilots flying critical missions? Would they want an average doctor performing delicate surgery? Would they want an average anyone performing an important task? I don't understand anti-intellectualism in this country, how is a race to the bottom going to get you anything exceptional?

Honestly, it reminds me of the villian from the Pixar movie, "The Incredibles". Since most people are unexceptional, no one is allowed to be exceptional.

Really? That's not how I read it.

"It’s time that a normal Joe Six-Pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency"

Notice the wording, "finally represented in the position of vice presidency".

Not "finally represented by the position of vice presidency".

...and we continue to dream of the day when mentally retarded people can finally be represented in the presidency...

Yes, finally "represented in" as opposed to "finally in".

Yeah, I agree with Stewart.

We've had an "average Joe" president for the last 8 years and it has been a complete disaster on all fronts.
Did you, by chance, graduate from both Yale and Harvard?

If not, would it be fair to say that you're well below average?

The EXACT same questions pertain to Barack Obama.

Do you want to fly in a commercial airliner with a guy who just started flying anything?

Good point. You have to put in time as a first officer before you become the pilot. Imagine your pilot is in the OJT program

I'd rather have an inexperienced co-pilot than an inexperienced pilot.

But hey, that's just me...

are you people serious?
you want your neighbor to be v.p.? your grocer? your electrician? your frat buddy? whoops, that last one was a bad example.

i can not believe people are so desperately partisan that they are making the case for any "joe six pack" to have high office in our federal government.

as far as having an elite in the presidency, having a twit that stumbled through harvard and yale due to nepotism and has proved himself to be nearly a functional illiterate that admittedly doesn't read hasn't worked out that well kids. so lets replace him with an academic bottom feeder from the naval academy.

you get the government you deserve

My neighbor Cal? Yep, he'd be a good one.
I don't have a grocer. I think that's something from the past.
My electrician C.B.? Nope, he's got a blood disorder and is probably going to die soon.
My frat buddy? Didn't have any.

And are you just jealous that GWB graduated from both Yale and Harvard and you didn't? Sour grapes. Sour grapes.

You've made this point before, I believe, and I agree. Not everyone is presidential material.

Theoretically, any American should have the chance to become President if they so desire. That doesn't mean that all Americans are cut out to be the Chief Executive of this great nation.

Personally, I think Joe Biden is about as far from presidential material as you could get.

Well, that's fine. We'll see what the voters think fairly soon.

Check your PM. I would like to discuss this just a bit - I mean, honestly, I'm wondering what you see that makes Biden worth voting for...

No, the question is not about an experienced person, it's about a person that is good at what they do. A good doctor is a good doctor. Palin went to six colleges in six years. Obama graduated from Columbia (a great school I might add) and Harvard Law, he was editor of the Harvard Law Review, he is not average.
