I'll let you wikipedia this one yourself. 
Initially it was an endeavour to take a scholarly look at finding the "historical" Jesus and involved conservative Christians. However, as the group developed, conservatives started leaving because of the overriding liberal Christian bias in the group that can be described as being strongly naturalistic. However, as someone who studies the sciences, I recognize that the assumption of naturalism is necessary for any science.
Some of their notable biases tend to be:
1) Doubting miracles and the supernatural
2) Doubting prophecy
3) Doubting claims of Jesus' divinity
Currently, the Jesus Seminar is probably the most visible representative of liberal Christian scholarship. Althought I wouldn't use the findings of the Jesus Seminar as a generalization of what self-subscribing liberal Christians believe.
I haven't read any literature that supports the work of the Jesus Seminar so I admit that my exposure to their work to be biased against it.
