Too lenient in my view. The "Subway Guy" is a pervert who should do his time in general population. The recordings of his discussions with a woman who had children are disgusting. Good for his wife for divorcing him and getting their children well away. One wonders if his sickness reached to his own kids.

Yes, throw away the key is a great thing. But if he does the full term of more than 15 years behind bars he'll probably feel like he served life by the time they let him out. If he makes it to that point. A rich child predator with a commercial brand is going to draw a lot of attention. And the SHU doesn't mean he won't stand to get touched there.

Why are the parents not held responsible in part ? Why do they not know what their children are doing ? When I read the intro post I thought it was children not young adults .

So I was not referring to the girls he had sex with but the child porn he watched. That involved exploited children. I do not know what if any parental involvement there was. But regardless, he made a point of seeking out specifically underage girls because that is what he liked. It really shouldn't matter where the parents are, if Jared did not like to diddle underage girls this would not be an issue. The children involved are the victims.

I don't believe that anybody is beyond help, and I say that as somebody who was sexually abused. I have faith and perhaps naivety in peoples' ability to change but I believe that when death is the only option remaining in your mind, you have lost the battle with evil. It is not our place to decide who lives and who dies, who sins past forgiveness vs who is able to be forgiven etc.

Some people are beyond help, or simply not worth the effort. A systemic child molester would be one of them.

I think his comrade is getting off light. Any person who can stand by and watch kids commit sexual immorality and sexual perversion and exploit them while doing so is heinous and despicable.

I'm glad to read most of these comments, because when I read the articles elsewhere, a lot of people were saying that because at least one of the 16 year olds was a sex worker (which is a heartbreaking sentence to type), it was her own fault that she was exploited. That kind of thing just nauseates me. He was also recorded talking about how easy it was to access children in Thailand.

I did think that a judge could freeze accounts or take away money from criminals, or is that only if the money has been made from the actions for which the person is imprisoned? (I hope that question made sense.) I hate the thought that he may come out and still be rich.

The government can only seize money that has been acquired illegally.

I have a friend who as in the military and stationed there. It is sickeningly easy to access children. He was sickened when his buddies would tell him to grab a pack of crackers and come on with them to party on a Friday night. He asked why and one of his mates laughed and said, because you need to have currency to buy the girls. He was serious.

I honestly don't believe that a person should have their home raided and then sent to prison for looking at or receiving child pornography...

I agree with that considering people dumb enough to go to adult porn sites can contract a virus that puts child porn onto their computer and they don't even know it.
And especially when he had a wife and children. He should certainly lose all his assets to his wife and children, but police shouldn't be able to raid a home because some unwitting person contracted a virus of that nature.

As to your question, was he lonely? He was married with children. No, he wasn't lonely. He's sick! Very, very sick. You Tube search Jared Fogel taped conversations, some which were aired on Dr.Phil, prove that well enough.
Personally, I think he should have been sterilized as part of his sentence. But that's just me.

according to the reports there was no rape, violence, abuse, harassment, and maybe for that reason He is sentenced to 15 years for illicit sex with minors - at least, fortunately, he did not have sex with children under 13

I agree. I believe in physical castration as a mandatory sentence for all convicted pedophiles. Not even chemical castration because it costs a lot of money, and why?
