• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Didn't someone from Catholic Answers actually meet Chick once, at a screening of his film? I always believed he was a psuedonym for a whole group of crazy people, possibly a crazy church, or that he had died long ago and someone else was keeping the enterprise going, until I read of the actual Chick encounter from a reputable Catholic source.

I've actually read through a whole list of his comics and then I could not help but wonder: can ANYONE actually believe him? His message is simple: BUY more Chick Tracts. BUY, BUY, BUY... Any website that tells you you need to buy something for people in order to save them is clearly false! Didn't Jesus chase the merchants out of the temple?
But the fact that there are people who believe in the things he writes in his comics truely makes me wonder about their level of education and their level of well... general development. How CAN you believe that? Ever seen the one on dungeons and dragons?

If you really want to know a whacked out anti-Catholic conspiracy theorist, check out Tony Alamo:

http://www.alamoministries.com/content/english/index.html

Here's from one of his newsletters:

"After quitting his diabolical work for Rome, under the pretense of being part of the United States government, John G. Peeler tells how the United States of America’s law enforcement agencies are enforcing the Pope in Rome’s will on U.S. citizens. All of its secret societies pretend to be the servants and the protectors of not only the U.S. citizens but the citizens of the world. However, in reality, Mr. Peeler and many thousands of other former government people say they were out to destroy U.S. citizens, as well as the citizens in all the other nations of the world."

Or how about this bizzare statement:

"Hopefully it is now clear that the Catholics and their president are in charge of the federal government, and that the federal government and its Catholic President are now in the business of deciding which religions are good for us and permissible for us. Clinton's Catholic upbringing will compel him to attach warning labels on every church that is not Catholic. But his warnings are lies, are hypocritical, biased, prejudiced, and unconstitutional."

Or this:

"The news media, which is the fourth branch of the Catholic U.N. government take over of once sleepy but now arousing America, complains about anyone reporting intolerances of the Catholic cult and its government. They say we Christians are intolerant for merely reporting the crimes that they commit. The Catholic Cult Awareness Network is violently intolerant to every church in the nation that is not Catholic, and the Cult Awareness Network is now the intelligence division of the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, IRS, FBI, and all government agencies. This position has been given to C.A.N. by the Vatican to execute its insane intolerances and hatreds against God Almighty, God's churches, God's people, God's Bible, the Son of God's birthday, prayers to God, and everything that is called God. Are not all of these anti-God intolerances coming from the Antichrist himself whose headquarters are in Rome?"

It's actually rather funny. Unfortunately, Alamo and the people who follow him are dead serious.:(

those are rediculous tracts Crispie. I especially take offense to the Christian missionaries doing good works of charity being sent to hell...
Good works are stigmatized by the hateful Jack Chick. He is not spreading the gospel Crispie. His is a hateful message.

Guys, how is teaching that homosexuality leads to a corrupt life, or that works alone (yes works not faith) will get you into heaven, or that God can do wonderful things to our lives when we become saved, wrong? Im curious as how you come with this conclusion?? Is this against Catholic teachings or something, Im really confused about this.

Emphasis mine because this is the point I wish to address.

God can do wonderful things in our lives when we become Christian (I'm reluctant to use the word "saved" for theological reasons we can discuss via PM if you'd like.) You might be inright, outright, upright, downright happy all the time (to quote a Vacation Bible School favorite) from the time you accept Christ until the moment you die. But, you probably won't be. Your job may still get on your nerves, you may still be ugly. Your wife might leave you even if you turn everything around, and your kid might never forgive you. Your outward life may not be changed at all, and it could possibly be worse than it was before (for instance, you could lose your job because of your new religion, or get thrown in a concentration camp.)

If someone reads that tract and says "My life sucks. If I get saved, everything will be great." and then they "get saved" and their life isn't instantly great, they are going to feel cheated. They're not going to stick to Christianity, because in their eyes Christianity didn't do what it was supposed to do.

My parish's unofficial philosophy is "You fall down, you get back up. You fall down, you get back up." etc. That's what our walk with Christ is. We'll all fall down, but our faith helps us get back up. This tract tells folks that they can get up and never fall down again, which is misleading and damaging.

^_^ Sounds just like Satan! A Little bit of truth mixed in with a lot of .
How anyone could excuse this man and his behavior is unbelievable. Ya know, I bet Hitler told the truth once or twice in his life, he might have even been nice to a few select Jews, does that let him off the hook?

Yeah, what this man does is simply awful. He lies, and misrepresents, and cheats, and is just plain mean. I mean, you can disagree with the Catholic faith, fine, nothing wrong with that. But lie, and misrepresent, and smear it is another thing. Absolutly not cool.
