• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I've gotta ask...

I think it served a purpose but I don't use it much. I certainly don't hate it. Can I ask why you have such a strong feeling against it?

Sorry for the super late reply... real life caught up on me ;) Anyway, I don't like it because of many reasons: my friends' narcissism, my mom uses FB to berate me (and I *hate* that), some church members "stalk" me on there but never say anything until we meet in person, gossipy people, too much spam and dumb ads... I could go on.

YES!!! I deleted it and never looked back.
I wish I could delete my account :( But so many of my friends across the world use it, and I use it to keep in touch with them... SIGH.

yes I do, but maybe not for the same reasons you might..

I'm tired of being scammed and lied to by guys on facebook
I'm tired of hearing about my friends and family's relationships and baby announcements
I'm tired of seeing other people update their status about finding a teaching job, when I have no prospects.
Needless to say, I don't go on very often anymore.

Sorry if this sounds selfish or bitter, I'm just getting tired of this social networking site.

I don't think it is the Mark of the Beast like some like to make it out to be, but I do think that as people, we can find almost anything to amuse us. The problem comes when the devil doesn't even have to try and tempt us with the really bad stuff, because we are too pre-occupied spending all the waking day reading about someone whom we have only ever met once at a party, through a friend of a friend; who now has a new BFF, made a sandwich or been to the bathroom. Talk about a waste of time.

I agree, I don't think it's any mark of the beast or anything like that, but that bolded part is what bothers me when it comes to my usage of Facebook in the past... I was on it too much and I got more and more irritated with it as time passed! Now I'm hardly on there and I am so much happier.

I never hated FB so much as I just never felt it was right for me. There were a few times in my early to mid-20's where I almost jumped in but never did (I don't regret it). I much prefer Twitter.

I have a Twitter account as well, but I've ditched it, because no one really cares about what I tweet, unfortunately. It also sucked time from me!

I still have it, and I update my status occasionally, but usually by text. It's largely a waste of time.

Aye, totally agree. Now I'm on Facebook for reasons of checking on my school's group page (because my students are on it CONSTANTLY and it's easy to communicate with them outside school using the group); checking on my family's updates (though I hate my mom's updates); some close friends' updates; check for event updates; and another group I am on. I don't check the news feed whatsoever anymore.

Well my suggestion is do what I do. Log in infrequently and post even less

Does anybody here dislike Facebook, like I do?

:aarh:

Yeah...

I didn't care for social networks. But I ended up getting pressured into getting facebook in college, because I was in a class related to social networks and I was singled out because I didn't have a facebook.

But I deactivated mine a couple of months ago. I wasn't really using it. My so-called friends didn't want to talk to me anymore. I wasn't doing a whole lot on it like I had been.

Facebook sucks!

The violation of privacy is just part of it.
No one in their right mind gives their legal name on a 'social network', and then voluntarily release all sorts of other information that can compromise their personal security.

And then we read articles in the media where some employee is shocked because they said something about someone at work, or the company they work for and while on Facebook, and they end up being fired! Or sued, etc...

I use it for evangelism and to keep contact conveniently with loved ones. I dislike some things about it, and I wish there were more alternatives, but I have no problem using it.

Also, I like Words with Friends.

I can see the convenience it offers by people blogging whats going on in their lives, but, this business of virtually everyone wanting to be my friend...is not only grossly overwhelming but a little on the immature side im afraid. I think im more for participating in private Blogs that people write so you dont have tons of perfect strangers invading your space . Now..i admit that im a Dinosaur when it comes to the internet and social networking...so... i could be missing something in regards to Facebook as far as its appeal. Probably am.

Is it low of me that I suddenly just want to be FB friends with you so that I can destroy you at Words with Friends?

Not at all. Destroying me at Words with Friends is a time-honored tradition among my friends.

My vocabulary is awesome. My ability to think ahead is wretched. I'm no good at chess, either, and for the same reason. :D
