Gentlemen, this idea that God creates everything in some shake and back deal (not that he couldn't do that) is not backed up by observable data.

The Earth is 4.5 Billion years old....deal with it.

This is not anti biblical.
Interesting that a person of your 'username' would state something as revolutionary as this...;)

Here's the funny thing, Mark, you've just presented all the evidence of a young earth that creationists have.

That is to say, none.

As for it being anti biblical, you have two choices, IMO, scrap religion/bible or accept that you can't take Genesis and it's two different creation stories literally.

I do not believe that God just turned on a lightswitch...as much as I would like to.

No, the Universe is 18-20 billion years old, the Milky Way, about 12..and us at 4.5 billion.

As for man..depending on how you define first man..I would say at hundred thousand years.

I believe that God is behind creation, but allowed it to develop using the laws of physics, biology, etc.

So God, given your firsthand experience of creation and of course your supreme authority over the bible, why did you take 6-7 days to make the universe? Did Mrs. God ask you to mow the lawn again?

The Earth is only 6000 years old.

To state otherwise is blasphemy.

Oh no! OH NO! I've blasphemed! NOOOOOO!!! The disgrace! The shame! The horror!

Or perhaps you interpreted it wrong and it's a fairy tale just like God meant it to be... Hmm? A story with a moral rather than a divine documentary? Should we say Ursula really was a magical octopus with the head of a human, or should we say the various morals we can interpret from that story? Do you really think God made men from mud? Do you honestly believe that Noah's children had incest with one another and that they are our great-great-so on-grandparents?

What do you think man came from? Stardust? What are we made of, that you can not find in the earth?

I don't think a bunch of stardust coalesced and "poof", there was space-man!

It's not the origin I have a problem with, it's the means. Sure, at some point down the road mud was converted into plant matter, that plant matter was eaten by something like a cow, the cow was slaughtered, I ate a chesseburger partly composed of that cow, and I've just digested the mud which is now a part of my body.

In the case of Genesis though, it would be like me walking home and saying "Hey mom!" to a pile of mud on the way. Bizzare doesn't even begin to describe it.

Man, like other animals, like other organisms, like everything else, is made up of chemicals, the same components the entire universe's matter is made up of. If by stardust, you mean the basic elements of existance, then yes, we are stardust.

What are your reasons for believing in a young earth?

In that case we are probably more air than dirt..

All the carbon plants have is from the air, but then there's water... are we counting water as in the ground or from the sky?
Aren't we mainly just nothing? Atoms are made up of Protons, Neutrons and Electrons (yes, I know those contain even smaller particles, but that doesn't really matter in my point), with large spaces in between the nucleus and electron shells. Not that it really contributing anything, just interesting (I think).

If Genesis weren't literal, then there would be no means of descrbing sin using the bible. :D

And anyway how could you know where to start being literal and stop???

Why not? It could have been possible then!

Biblical? Read Genesis and The geanology of Jesus. Now tell me, are you implying that men between the time of Adam and Abraham lived for tens of millions of years?

No, they will probably tell you that Genesis is an allegory; i.e. a fictional story that conveys a spiritual truth.
