I've had a few different Christian organizations show up at my door over the years (JW's usually being an annual event). I've never had an atheist come to my door to preach atheism however.
I feel that God is still working on or with them, a true atheist would not care about anything related to God or us Christians.
A true Apostate would hate God and not even desire to look into the things of God... IMHO
Atheists don't have any god. But that is something human must have to stabilize one's mind.
So, they attack people who has god in order to get some relief.
Beliefs eventually translate into actions or lifestyles, which are seldom addressed here. If the country is going to hell in a handbasket (which I believe it is) it is because of wrong beliefs.
Kill the messenger and the message will go away.
You mean which behaviors should people have, that would please me. Ask yourself that question and I'm sure we'll find common ground.
The message is subtle, but the kids get it, especially in the sciences.
The vast majority of your country is christian. Half of them are pretty much fundamentalists believing in a literal genesis. It is indeed true that your country isn't doing very well, if we look through the mist of rich hollywood / sillicon valley extravaganza and just look at the statistics of the nation you live in.
When we compare those to the rest of the western world, we find that nations with far less degrees of belief, especially fundamentalist belief, do a lot better in a multitude of ways.
Not saying that there is a causation there, but there is definatly a correlation, making it very suspect.
It's kind of strange to me that your proposed solution to this, is actually MORE of the suspect thing. Seems to be a trend of certain "patriots". Kind of like trying to solve the gun problem, with even more guns.
Why not?
We share a society and the beliefs of my fellow citizens have a potential direct impact on my life.
I care about the beliefs of christians in the same way as I care about the beliefs of politicians.
I'm not an apostate, because I was never a believer to begin with.
Having said that, an apostate, assuming that you mean someone who was a believer and then became a non-believer, would not "hate" god because (s)he would not consider god to be real.
Your claim makes no sense.
Think about it: do you "hate" Shiva or Thor?
If the vast majority of Americans practiced their faith we wouldn't have nearly as many problems, therefore it can be concluded that most are Christian-in-name-only, or what called "tares" in the bible.
Could care less they are not gods. They just want to copy the God much like Lucifer, he wanted to dethrone God and be God and he got 1/3 of the angels to rebel.. so could care less what they think. It's not up to them. What if the other gods are upset you don't worship them?
...that atheists are more distressed about the belief of Christians than Christians are about the disbelief of atheists (on these boards). Thoughts, from either side?
