  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What would the doctor be able to do this early besides tell me that I'm pregnant? I'm only 4.5 weeks. I wasn't planning on going in until I was 8-10 weeks. With military doctors, I have to go get the PG test, and once that's confirmed they won't do anything else there -- I have to be sent to the hospital because the regular doctor is not allowed to see me at ALL if I'm pregnant, so even if I go in now, I won't be able to be seen by an OB/GYN for at least a few weeks.
My point was that it's good to get a blood test confirmation if you've had a few negative tests before your positive. That's just my IMO. A good friend of mine tested negative 3 times before a positive test and she was 4.5 weeks as well. She then went to the doctor to confirm it and her urine test was negative then the blood test was positive. She ended up losing the baby at 6 weeks. For me personally I prefer to have a blood test to confirm anyway but I also think it's good to get checked out as well to make sure things are alright.

What would be the purpose in avoiding the blood test, should they want to do one? I think most places have "blood work" done the first appointment, not necessarily a pregnancy test but to test for other things... I can't remember what though. Deficiencies and things that are wrong.
That's correct, at your first appointment if you've had a positive pregnancy test you will have to do some blood work done to get your count, check for deficiencies, iron...etc. It's necessary so I wouldn't avoid it. Are you afraid of needles?

I hate doctors.... I freak out... just taking my dog to the vet I fainted, and I was just is the waiting room..... I really try to go to the doctor as little as possible..... and have fainted there too. . . I could barely handle getting there more or less having blood drawn... just the thought of it makes me light headed..... I wouldn't have a problem with sonograms or the normal things, but needles and blood I just can't take it..... so I wondered if you could refuse it, or if it is absolutely necessary

Unfortunately I don't think a doctor will allow you to refuse blood work, it is pretty necessary to know if your levels are good for the health of both you and the baby. Just pray and ask the Lord to get you through it. Needles make me lightheaded too but if I don't think about it or focus on it I'm ok. Even if they let you refuse it, it would not be wise because you would be putting your unborn baby and yourself at risk. Please consider that.

Going to the doctor and getting the blood test can be useful if it tests your levels of HCG, not just is she/isn't she pregnant. BUT... sometimes it can just cause more stress if HCG levels are initially low. And there's not really anything that a doctor can or will do about an impending miscarriage, unless you've miscarried a number of times before and they know why.

I didn't mean the doctor can do anything but my friends made the mistake of telling everyone they knew which included basically a the entire university where her husband worked. So when she miscarried at 6 weeks it was that much harder on her because people would come up and ask her about her pregnancy because she had told them so early on (@ 4.5 weeks). Again it's just my opinion for personal sake I guess.

Another thing they check for in the initial blood test is if you are RH negative, which is pretty important to know. It's only that one blood test at the beginning that's necessary though, as long as you have a normal healthy pregnancy.

Also, as far as the testing negative thing, I had a friend who suspected she was pregnant and ended up going from one specialist to another because none of the doctors thought she was pregnant. A few months later a doctor finally confirmed it for her. I think stories like that are rare, but they do happen on occasion, even with all our fancy technology.

Please know that I would never put my future child/ren at risk. I already love them more then myself... But I know for a fact that if I would have blood work done, I would faint.... no matter how much I thought about other things or talked with someone.... nothing helps. I have things I suppose should be checked out (which require blood work)... but unless it is totally life thretning, not happening. Maybe my dreams of having children won't work... I don't know. Maybe I'll have to adopt, although I would perfer Bio children. I already know that my children won't go through the immunization process. But please know full well that I would never endanger my future children.

That would be hard. :( we told our parents (made them not tell anyone) and the entire internet (haha) but no one else.... for this very reason. Last week we told the siblings. I suppose the rest will happen soon.

katlyn, I know I am a B+ but thats a good point if you have a negative blood type maybe you should go sooner.

I have to be honest with you, I think the statement I bolded contradicts itself. I think it is very unwise not to get your child any immunizations, especially this day in age with the harsh viruses and diseases out there now. Even more than that though you said twice you would not do anything to endanger your child but not getting blood work done while pregnant would be doing so. That is the only way to see if your unborn baby may be in danger due to low levels of certain things that will help your baby grow and thrive. You said that unless it's life threatening you won't do it but it could be if you don't do it. Your baby could be at risk if you don't have that blood work done. The first trimester is a very critical time which is why they usually do it at your first appointment. Why take that risk? If you can't even stand to go to the doctor and have any needles, how do you suppose you will be able to make it through a pregnancy and even more, labor?

I'm sorry if this post seems a bit harsh but your post upsets me a bit being pregnant myself I could not even imagine avoiding something for my own benefit and not putting my baby first.

I was five months pregnant before it was confirmed with my last son, I knew I was pregnant I could feel him kicking but the tests (even blood tests) kept coming back negative until finally one came back positive, and they did and ultrasound and found I was five months pregnant lol.

We told my parents and the internet, but no one else will know until I start showing. We live far away from relatives, so it's not too difficult to keep this quiet for awhile. I am not planning on telling any extended relatives until I am at least 6 months along, anyway.

I think the statistics for a positive 10 DPO are only like 70% for most of those early response ones, so its normal not to get one until 13 or 14 dpo.... which is why I was so shocked to get a positive myself so early...

70% is still pretty high. I didn't realize that it was the DPO that mattered...I thought it was just the first day of your expected period that mattered. Thanks for the info :)

Here is another article on vaccines with mercury.... with the 15fold increase in autism and other problems.... because I chose not to give my child mercery.... dosn't make me a bad mom....

What does DPO stand for?

As for the blood type question, my dr said it only becomes an issue late in pregnancy. I'm AB negative, husband's O positive, so the baby could be positive and then my body could react to the baby's blood and start creating antibodies. But they only test for that at 28 weeks, I don't think it's necessary to go to the dr early because of that.

alright.... questions from a non-pregnant woman here..... if you test in the office and the pee strip says positive do they still have you do the blood test? Is there anyway possible to decline the blood test? Also when going through the pregnancy do they do blood tests offen? If so what all are they for, and can you decline them? Thanks

I never had a blood test to determine pregnancy but I had to have blood tests for HIV and for Hepatitus as well as a bunch of other stuff.

Then, when they suspected I had gestational diabetes, I had to have 4 blood tests in one day, an hour each apart.

I think you can decline, I mean, it's YOUR body, but these are all to help the safety of mom and baby so it would be wise to go along with them I'd say.
