I find it strange that we can't face "God" "face to face" unless we are dead. It's like wishing something to happen when it's impossible to happen, we are dead. How can we stay alive after death?

From a Christian point of view it wouldn't be strictly true to say we see God face to face. God has no face. It means we see Him much more clearly for what He is. Death would be conceived on just as the end of the beginning. The stepping from one life into the next. We die to our earthly body to be born again in the next.

I would also argue that, from a Christian standpoint, those who were contemporaneous with Jesus Christ would attest to the possibility of seeing God.

I've thought about this very thing. What if every morning I get up and walk out the front door of my house, God was just sitting there on His throne and greated me everyday and followed me around all day, maybe He would sit at the foot of my bed and watched me sleep all night. What if I could see and touch and talk to Him every moment of my life would I take Him for granted? Just as I take for granted nearly everything else in this world. Would I be annoyed and try to lose Him? Would I even bother building a relationship with Him? Knowing He will always be here. Would there be any sense of freewill if His goodness and judgement was always right there beside me? I guess if He was visible and interacted naturally with us He wouldn't be transcendent and void of all godly attributes. So maybe that's why.

It's very strange that we can't see God until we're dead. But we can see Jesus on a piece of toast:

Or--my favorite--on a CT scan:
That would be a weird peice of toast to eat. I'm reminded of the last supper. "take and eat, this is my body..." The pan had to be made up and the CT scan is obviously someone's lost twin.
Why don't you ever see pictures of speciation in everyday objects. Perhaps that is less likely.

One logical explanation as to why we can't see god is that he doesn't exist. Other explanations just come across as excuses.

Good question.
This is so because God loves you. He wants to give you (and me) the best you can get. Just like kids are not allow to open their gift till the said time. If a kid opened the gift before the time, then the gift will be taken away and he will be punished.

IIRC iI think it was Aquinas who argues that although the vision of God is usually reserved to the saints in the next life, Moses and Paul could have seen him in this.

So, I don't think it's weird that we can't see God while in the flesh. Within the mirror, within our little circle of this world, He is everywhere to be seen.
