I truly believe that fasting that God has in mind is sharing the gospel so that one can become saved.
Isaiah 58:5
Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? [is it] to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes [under him]? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?
Is starvation and having an attitude such as "Looking at me I'm starving for the Lord to get close to him and this is pleasing to him is called a fast or is it spreading the gospel with others so that God can use his word to apply to someone's heart to save them as it is mention in Isaiah 58:6
Isaiah 58:6
[Is] not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Compare this with Luke 4:18
18 The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
