I would and have worn a cross.
I have spray painted a huge cross on the hood of my car in the past.
I think while we have the luxury of yelling the cross of Christ from the roodtops, we should do so.
There may come a time in our lifetimes where it isnt legal to do so.

But I dont know if I feel any more protected wearing it.
It would be a reminder to me and maybe a conversation starter for someone else.

Ive had my Jesus shirts on and had someone ask me about them and that has opened up the door a couple time.

I was in a grocery store at another point and this couple waved and smiled seeing the shirt i was wearing. They were christians too, so seeing someone out in public not afraid to proclaim it in someway was uplifting for them.

I dont see the problem with crosses or tshirts or anything that causes us to remember more often or someone else to ask.

Id say keep it honorable tho.
I dont like some of the bumper stickers that seem to say christians just sin all the time like everyone else.

Some of the stuff is tacky, but some of it is nice.

Its just like anything else that doesnt have an absolute yes or no answer to it.
Honor God with it somehow.

I don't think that wearing a Cross to identify yourself as a Christian is idolatry. Trusting in it to 'protect' you in some way would certainly border on idolatry though, and could cross the line into it depending on the kind/level of reverence you have for it. Perhaps you could tell us how you feel "more protected" by wearing it and why?

Yours and His,
David

I don't mean to be disrespectful , but if Jesus had been killed by a bullet from a gun would we ware a miniture gun or bullit around our neck ?

Could you imagine seeing churches displaying a gun instead of a cross.

Sorry just a thought that crossed my mind....:o

I'm not sure but didn't the early christians use the symbol of a fish ?

Do you worship the image of the cross? If not, no.
Worship doesn't have to be involved in order for something to be idolatry. If your love for an object, person, or place is more than your love for God, then that is idolatry (even if you're not worshipping it).

Definitions of worship:

wor·ship

v. wor·shiped, or wor·shipped wor·ship·ing, or wor·ship·ping wor·ships or wor·ships
v. tr.
  1. To honor and love as a deity.
  2. To regard with ardent or adoring esteem or devotion.
As long as you don't rank the cross higher than God, it is not idolatry.

I do not think wearing a cross is idolatry for I do not worship it. I do not think it offers me protection for it is not a lucky charm. I wear a cross daily only because it reminds me Whose I am, what I am to stand for, and how I am to love and treat others.

Brain Damage yea ur right...the early church used the symbol of a fish. they used it during the persection of nero i think...as s symbol to show they were christians and be able to meet together for house groups.

I dont wear any christian stuff...lol im the kind of antichristian person who is a christian. Im just not up for all the symbols and nice words and stuff...but i dont mind if anyone does. If u were a cross or dont...doesnt realli matter much. Whats important is that u are living as as disciple for jesus. If wearing christian stuff helps u do that...then go ahead...knock urself out LOL!

No cross, no salvation. The cross has always been the supreme symbol of our faith in the Savior; the fish was merely a disguised mark used among early Christians like a password to identify themselves to each other in a way that the authorities would not notice.

I don't think that Christians who choose to wear crosses do so because it wast the instrument by which the Jews killed our Lord. I would think that we use this as a symbol of our faith because Jesus himself compared a cross to the act by which we walk with the Lord.

I just realised that I don't know where my cross is here in the office. I wonder how long it has been missing. We also have at least one cross at home. I really don't get too much into them simply for fear of them becoming a graven image.

Matthew 16:24
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

idolatry is worshipping an image of a created thing or creature as though it itself, the image, is a god .. .

Do you treat your cross that way? I don't think so . . . . so no . . it is not idolatry . . :)

Peace in Him!

I agree that that is part of idolatry. However, I believe that biblically speaking we are all greater idolaters than we think. I believe that putting anything before God is to make that thing, be it TV, a spouse, sports, kids, an idol in our lives.

Here is the definition of idolatry from Webster's 1828 dictionary

Idolatry

IDOL'ATRY
, n. [L. idololatria. Gr. idol, and to worship or serve.]

1. The worship of idols, images, or any thing made by hands, or which is not God.

Idolatry is of two kinds; the worship of images, statues, pictures, &c. made by hands; and the worship of the heavenly bodies, the sun, moon and stars, or of demons, angels, men and animals.

2. Excessive attachment or veneration for any thing, or that which borders on adoration.

Peace in Him!
