  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For those carry the bayonet, I support you.

Out spake Spake brave Horatios, the captain of the Gate. To every man upon this earth,
death comes soon or late. And, how may man die better, than facing fearful odds. For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods.

No greater love hath any man.

There over there doing there jobs and what are ou people doing?? sitting here degrading the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!! they could be on here reading what you pepole are saying. Just be glad this isnt the U.S.S.R. You could be shot for saying bad things abou the goverment. oh wait a second, Saddam did the very same thing. Oh but we shouldnt have gone over there and took him out of power huh?? Get Your heads out of you butts and open your eyes. If Iraqis didnt want a democracy than why did 72% or all elegible voters go out and vote?!?! Why did thousand upons thousands of Iraqis risk there lives(40 something died minD you) to go and vote on... wait a minute, A DEMOCRTAIC GOVERMENT!!!!!! Thousands were turned away because they ran out of ballots. does that sound like a country that dosent want a democratic goverment?? dont think so. Another thing. How can war be a sin? it cant be. were the crusades a sin? no. and why is that? beause we thought we were better than the muslims and tried to impose our beleifs on people that were doing just fine on their own. that is very hypocritical. in one instance war is a sin but when its to our benifit it's not?? its one our the other not both

Or maybe, since we have American citizenship and are entitled to the same free speech you are, we can continue to live here peacefully expressing the opinion that our government is not infallible and we believe it is making a mistake... Even though that may mean being insulted by people like you...

Oh, and waving a white flag doesn't automatically make one a hippie...

:sigh:

Okay, wait... what are you trying to say??? The crusades were a good thing??? Or was that sarcasm? Care to perhaps clarify whatever point it was you were attempting to make? I'm quite confused...

I have a pocket sized copy of that poem at home it was given as a gift and its dated 1903.

Very awesome poem the language is so great and emotive... (I had to consult a dictionary on some of the meanings though)

God led His people into battle Many times.

so where do some Christians get the (unbiblical) idea that God doesn't agree with wars?
If God comes down and tells me that this war is okay, I'll believe it. Until then, it's a matter of trusting the judgement of the fallible humans who got us into it... and to be honest, I occasionally have problems accepting their judgement...

True, but we are not God... And fighting the devil is absolutely okay... Killing innocent humans is NOT (IMHO, anyways...)

Ummm, just to let you know, you just quoted a man who is known for being a huge advocate of NONVIOLENCE... His way of fighting injustice never involved killing innocent individuals... in fact, it didn't even involve physical aggression towards those handing out the injustice... He fought injustice by taking it calmly and showing the world that he was above it... and by teaching others to do the same...

Sure, God loves war. God is love. He loves to see people blown to bits, napalmed to an ash, shot full of holes, bombed into oblivion, children left parentless, tortured, hated, left destitute and homeless. Yeah, that’s the God I want to serve (he said facetiously).

Sometimes I wonder what planet I am on.

Ya know, Jim, for a good ol' southern republican, you have some fairly liberal anti-war feelings (yes, it's a compliment! ;) :p )

Well, nice to know that you weren't for the crusades... yet you seem to be for this war... I would venture to say that God frowned seriously on the church when they were killing innocent people just because they disagreed with them... And I would venture to say that God frowns on every innocent death which has occurred (/will occur) as a result of this war.

But then, that's just my "liberl bs" opinion... take it for what its worth...

Blessings...

This American thinks we are wrong to be there. But now that we're THERE, I've stopped protesting, or being upset, or anything because all we can do now is clean up our mess, pray our troops don't get hurt any further, pray that democracy takes hold there, and pray that it happens QUICKLY.

But did I want us to go to war? Not in the least. I am still not happy about it, but protesting after the fact only harms the troops.

We're not out there purposely killing the inocent young man we are there trying to help these people get completely free from a murderous tyrant that was and his followers still are taking innocent lives. For the first time in those peoples lives Adamdavid they are now experiencing freedom because we are there. Freedom cost something it cost Jesus his life he died for our freedom. Our soldiers are dying for the Iraqis freedom. No greater hath any man than he lay down his life for a friend.

I'm not saying freedom and democracy are bad things, I'm saying war is a bad thing. It's great that there are Iraqis who now have the right to vote. That being said, however, it is not great that there are deplorable numbers of Americans and Iraqis who are dead now because of this fight...

It would be great if I could go along like nothings wrong and believe that somehow the end justifies the means, but I can't. Being a "Patriotic American" would be a whole lot easier if I could approve of everything my government does, but I can't. My conscience just won't let me...

Blessings...
