I don't know. I've never wanted to cry talking to Jesus. I've never even understood the concept. Crying for what? I guess I grew up where men don't cry unless something is worth crying about. Death, rape, people hurt unjustly.

So maybe I'm just a strange man. I don't know.

Yes, that's a really good sign most likely.

Way back before bibles were available, churches used (and many still do) a recited creed, to help summarize what we believe in. It's still useful as a way to confess our faith.

To confess (say) with our mouths that we believe in Jesus Christ.

Very much you can and need to listen to the words of Christ (in the gospels). Here's a link:
    Matthew 3 NIV
(or you can start at chapter 1)

Here's the Apostles' Creed we recite occasionally:

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
    creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
    born of the Virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
    was crucified, died, and was buried;
    he descended to the dead.
    On the third day he rose again;
    he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
    the holy catholic Church,
    the communion of saints,
    the forgiveness of sins,
    the resurrection of the body,
    and the life everlasting. Amen.

    ------
'catholic' means universal: all believers in Christ
'communion of saints' recognizes those passed on in Christ are together with us the Body of Christ, one with us.

Be cautious with emotions, they can be misleading.

Saying you have faith in Jesus does not have to be an emotional experience. When I handed over my life and my will to Jesus it was a very emotional experience for me.

It's OK to get emotional about your salvation and your faith. The concern you are hearing in this thread is that you should not be led by your emotions.

    Jeremiah 17:9 says,
The heart is deceitful above all things
    and beyond cure.
    Who can understand it?

If you follow Jesus strictly because your heart tells you to, your faith will be broken when your heart tells you to follow something else.

Know the risk and move on with your faith.

    No.

But you should, in time, get more and more fruit of the Spirit, its probably the best indicator you are born again (i.e. having the Spirit in you):

"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
    Gal 5:22

Similarly, you should be getting rid of these things:
"The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."
    Gal 5:19

Concentrate on this instead on feelings.

Feelings aren't right or wrong. Sometimes crying is just a natural response to His presence. It happens to me too sometimes, and I've seen it happen to a lot of people, men and women. If it doesn't happen, that's also fine. Everybody is individual.

    Hello Jags,

No, crying or becoming emotional isn't a sure sign that you're in good standings with God. It does show that the Holy Spirit is awake and aware... that you have a connection with God.

Be careful that you don't rely on emotions to validate your relationship with Jesus Christ. As you grow and become more mature in your faith, the less emotional you'll become.

You'll experience times I would like to call droughts... It's when you can't feel God... You feel like He may have abandoned you or you're alone, but these are the times when you'll experience the most growth because you'll have to walk by faith and not by sight or feeling. That's why it's important that you are convinced beyond a doubt you're saved... because when you're not experiencing the emotions, the enemy will be sure to show up and test it.

Be encouraged and continue to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The sun is still there, even at night and on cloudy days when we don't see it. In the same way, God is still with us, even at times when we don't feel Him.

Well, sometimes when I listen to my own music about Jesus, I start to cry, which sounds egotistic... ^_^ But it brings up memories of what I was going through at that point in my life when I wrote the song and now I can see God's wisdom and love from the other side.

I don't think crying is necessarily a sign of a good relationship, but it does indicate your heart isn't hardened. So that's a very good thing.

Also, some men just don't cry easily because of the way their brains are wired. So you don't have to have tears to be repentant, either.

I can only offer my opinion on that question.

God has an enemy, and that enemy doesn't like it that you've chosen the Lord. Revelation 12:10 identifies him as "the accuser" of God's people. Satan doesn't take kindly to losing, and he throws tantrums about it. In retaliation for losing you, he wants to make you miserable with negative, self-doubting thoughts that are nothing but a pack of lies.

Happens to me quite a lot. I need to remember to tell that devil where to get off, and do it a lot sooner.

Even if you have chosen God so that you can go to Heaven, so what? That's not a wrong motive at all.

Test the spirit operating in you by confessing Christ out loud during your prayer time. If you're hearing contrary statements and views from that which is written in the Bible then you should be wary but if you can testify about biblical truth, then you have no need to fear, knowing that it's the Holy Spirit filling your heart with love for God. God bless
