hi yaa all (i'm exerting my americanism here).
Anyway, i was just curious about what Christians thought about the story Lazarus of Bethany, the man who was dead for 3/4 days. Its not an overly large story and doesn't play a significant role within the bible (its relatively short), but i felt it was rather out of place in the bible, it didn't fit and was rather forceful in its meaning.

Care to share your thoughts? Go on ahead. No flames please o_O

How come do youthink it is out of place. It shows Jesus power over death, a power that Jesus, who was God, must be able to demonstrate. He came to reveal the will of God, to not have the story would make the bible out of place.

You haven't qualified this at all. What aspect of the story makes it incongruous? Is it a textual or theological criticism? I don't think it's against the forum if it's something you're genuinely trying to figure out for the sake of your faith, but there's not enough substance in your post to stimulate even the most basic of constructive debates.

My young friend above is correct. Taken from the FSG's for this area:

The purpose of this forum is to help members who are seeking to become Christians, or to better understand Christianity. This forum is designed specifically for non-Christians to ask Christians, both staff and members, about Christianity, the Christian faith, Christian worship, and other questions about Christianity such as salvation, prayer life, miracles, and the gospel.

seems pretty to the point I would say.

I think you are talking about why Jesus waited, no?

We have an impatience to get things fixed quickly, cleanly, perfectly. We do not trust that good things can happen during the suffering wait.

Mary and Martha would have had a horrendous time grieving. But they might have also made some amends, spent time with family, vowed to treat people better. The death shook up their lives, but it was not a sick joke that Jesus waited.

So many people harassed Jesus for immediate healing. They had enough faith to run to him for help. Mary and Martha knew Jesus better, and were probably strong in their faith. They showed that we can wait maturely and patiently for things we think we need immediately.

I don't know if that's the reason for the story. But think of all the people now who pray for healing and are criticized when things don't happen immediately. This is an example where Jesus could have done something, but chose to delay the answer. The suffering people endured was only a few days.

If this were me in the Jesus position, I would have had it up to -here- with people being dependent. I could have done the same thing out of spite, saying "see everyone, you can survive another day." Ha ha good thing I was not Jesus.
