Agreed. This is not a divinely inspired gift of speaking. It's clear the person does very much believe it is from God but it's just her doing her best as she believes is correct. There sadly is no wisdom or knowledge being expressed...nothing is being expressed other than random sounds, many repeating over and over.

Unknown tongues is nothing more or less than "foreign languages"...speaking in a language others don't know such as speaking Latin to those who only understand Chinese. Someone is supposed to translate or otherwise don't speak since the people listening won't be able to understand what is being said.
Back that up with Scripture. 1 Corinthians 14:2 contradicts what you are saying.

This is not what Paul says about tongues. Watch that you are not believing a lying spirit.
Watch that you are not believing a lying spirit.
You may want to follow your own advice, Oscarr.

1 Corinthians 14:2 is quite explicit. God's Word is truth and not a lie. Also, Paul said that those who speak in tongues are "giving thanks well". That is also God's Word, which is truth. A person cannot receive a lying spirit and the truth at the same time.

Back that up with Scripture. 1 Corinthians 14:2 contradicts what you are saying.

Like others, I watched the video and heard what she said...it's gibberish.

1Co 14:6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
1Co 14:7 And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
1Co 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
1Co 14:9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
1Co 14:10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.
1Co 14:11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
1Co 14:12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.
1Co 14:13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.
1Co 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.
1Co 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
1Co 14:16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?

1Co 14:19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

These are selected verses to prove your point, but you have left out the ones that give the more complete picture. That's what a lying spirit does. It emphasises one side of a story but leaves out information that does not support what it is saying.

1 Corinthians 14:27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God.

That verse is describing this type of situation:

A group of Christian have arrived in Utah from a distant country and do not speak English. If they wish to give testimonies or preach, no more than 3 should be speaking and only if there is an interpreter. Why? One person interpreting what 3 other people are saying is hard! 4 or more would be too much. Paul also says if there is no interpreter these people should not be speaking to the congregation. Why? There is no one to interpret (which means to translation) from their language to English. They should simply speak to God quietly to themselves in their minds etc.

There is no magical or miracle subject here. Tongues simply is a VERY OLD English word for "languages". All Paul is talking about is speaking and translating foreign languages so other people can know what's being said. Most of what Paul talks about in regards to "tongues" is this. The odd sounding "language" found in some churches is simply not something the bible promotes.

"If I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my mind is unfruitful."

It might at first appear confusing but this is what I believe Paul is talking about:

"If I pray in the words of a language I do not know or understand (like being able to recite the words of a Latin prayer from memorization but not able to understand what any of it means), then it is like I am praying but I have no idea what I am saying."

The OP was just wanting assurance. I viewed her video and felt that she was honest and sincere about her desire to know that what she was speaking was real. As you can see by my post in response to her, I was wanting to strengthen her faith to ensure that she knows that what she has is true and right.

But those who were accusing her of being false and speaking rubbish were not basing their opinion on Scripture, where she, in asking, receiving, and activating her faith was on the basis of Scripture.

So if someone is accusing someone of falsehood without reference to Scripture, when the accused person is basing what they are doing on Scripture, then the alternative to the Holy Spirit, Who totally complies with written Scripture, is a lying spirit. I think that some need to be warned about what spirit they are of.

Nonsense. Chill out with the accusations Oscarr. An opinion was asked. It was given, and it was not directed at anyone in particular. In addition it is not honoring or pleasing to the living God to make a mockery or joke or a source of "entertainment" the alleged "speaking of tongues".

Peace, Oscarr. Prayer is called for.

Let's do so.

Amen?

God is not the Author of confusion. However, there IS one that is. He revels in it.

We are admonished to be "sober" and "vigilant" and "alert". As it is written, the devil is a master at deceit and uses confusion and vagueness and darkness to his advantage.

He always has.

Amen?

It may have been unwise for her to put her video on this thread. It is actually a lack of faith on her part. She is wanting assurance from others to supplement her faith. I guess that she couldn't see any other way to gain an assurance that her speaking in tongues was genuine and not just made up from her own mind. I tried to point her back to God's Word in 1 Corinthians 14, and base her faith on verse 2, and to ensure that she takes the Scriptural steps of asking and receiving so that her path to the gift is also Scriptural.

If she is genuinely converted to Christ, then she has the fullness of the Holy Spirit within her, along with the potential to manifest any gift that the Holy Spirit decides to manifest through her. But to just start speaking without going through the proper steps could open her up to something just in the flesh, especially if she has incomplete or insufficient teaching about it.

But I think it is unfair for some on this thread to push her down and crush the little bit of faith that she has. (not you, by the way). Jesus would never do that. It says that he will not put out the small spark or quench the smoking flax. If there is just a small spark of faith, Jesus would fan it into a flame, not put His boot on it and crush it down. This is why those who are accusing her of falsehood are not representing Jesus at all, and are not exhibiting the spirit of Christ to her.

I would rather give her the benefit of the doubt, and point her to God's Word to increase and fan her faith into a stronger flame.

There is no confusion in what Paul is teaching in 1 Corinthians 14. If we follow what he says, we will know when and where to speak in tongues, and know that what we are speaking to God is true and correct.

The confusion, deceit, vagueness and darkness comes from those who give teaching that is not securely founded in Scriptural truth.
