• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is this OCD?

Hi,

I get thoughts sometimes, for a brief second, of for example persons doing dirty stuff with sexual organs :( I get blasphemous thoughts sometimes against Jesus. Sometimes I can get thoughts about girls for a brief second, when I'm in school for example.

Is it just temptations, or OCD, or is it both?

It feels like I can't control it, I keep rebuking such thoughts. Is it sinful? I don't want these thoughts, I want to live holy and pure, and I try so much to only focus on Jesus because I love him and want to live holy and pure before him.

I used to watch porn a lot when I was backslid. So I thought, could it be why I get such thoughts?

Jonathan,

Intrusive thoughts could be temptations, OCD or something else. The key is to not get caught up in them. When they pop up, refocus onto something else and move on.

Having a disciplined mind takes a lot of works mainly because your mind gets a ll kinds of messages. You have to make a consciouse effort to think about what you want. Oddly, the key to that is to nor fight your thoughts. Just observe them and let them go while you shift your focus.

The more you think about the thoughts you don't want, the more power you give them, which means the more you will have them.

Many Blessings,

Coach John

Intrusive thoughts can be a part of OCD, but they do occur in regular people too, people without a mental illness. I do not think the unwanted blasphemous thoughts are a sin, it is clear that you love the Lord.
As for the thoughts about girls, that is a normal part of being a man. You can live in the spirit, and practice discipline, and avoid sexual situations, but the temptation will always be there. Your flesh is still a reality that you have to live with. I would say that it is good to just keep on focusing on other things when those thoughts pop up. Just walk away from them. I admire that you trying to fight sexual temptation at such a young age, the age where it can be hardest to resist. Keep it up brother!

I see. Yes, I can be really tempted many times and face many temptations. Especially in a society like this. But through the grace of God, the blood of Yeshua and by the spirit, etc I overcome.
